How easy is it to rent a car without a reservation in Orvieto? I'm not sure how many days we will need one while we are there and plan on using the train/bus systems as well. Is there a problem with getting an automatic car any day they are open without it being reserved?

Yes, there well might be. Most cars are standard - not automatic - and the offices in Orvieto are not huge ones as you get at the airports. So if you just walk in (why not arrange in advance by at least a couple of days?) there is no guarantee of any car - never mind an automatic in the size you want.

Generally (not always but VERY often) you get much better rates pre-booking as with autoeurope.

Walk up rates can be very high. And <u>especially</u> if you need an automatic, pre-booking is a must.

For an automatic, I would definitely reserve.

Warning: you may not get an automatic even if you reserve one. An airport offers a better chance of getting an automatic and airport rental offices are open longer hours. If you chance it at Orvieto, check the open hours of the office. They often close in the afternoon and on Sundays.
