Orvieto car rental--location, and open Easter Monday?

Hi there, I'm hoping someone can answer this for me... we are looking at renting a car in Orvieto as it is much cheaper than Rome (thanks to those who have suggested this!). We would be picking up on Easter Monday. If the (Avis, in this case) site will allow me to reserve that day, can I assume that it will be open despite the holiday? I don't know just how big Easter Monday is in terms of what types of businesses may be open or closed. I want to avoid any unpleasant surprises upon arrival.

Also, can anyone explain proximity of any car rental agencies from the train station in Orvieto? I would assume the main one, as we would be coming from Rome by train.

thank you!

Easter Monday is a major holiday. I would be surprised if they are open that day. You might get a better rate using AutoEurope (which still may result in an Avis rental, but perhaps cheaper), but there might not be any rental car offices open in Orvieto on Easter Monday.

hi there, thanks for your reply! I keep trying our dates on AutoEurope with no luck...but I'm going to keep trying!

Just to see what would happen, I entered Christmas Day for a rental, and it informed me that the rental office was closed that day for holiday. So I'm hopeful that perhaps it does take holidays into account. I will probably call rather than book online, just to make sure.

AutoEurope has a three day minimum so that may be the problem if you are trying to rent for less. Sometimes their website is just quirky.

ky, I'm wondering if it's possible that they don't book this far out (April 2010)? We want it for seven days plus, and I've tried all different combos with no success... I think I will call!

I've been looking at May rentals from Chiusi on AutoEurope. I can't search on the .com, but can on .it. Try the Italian version.

Suggest going through AutoEurope for a rental. Hertz was the provider for us in Orvieto. Both the Hertz and Avis offices are a very short walk from the train station below the town. We also encountered a three day minimum rental as it was over Columbus Day weekend. I tried to pick up a car on a Saturday and found out that the office closed at 1 PM that day.
