Opinions on Paris Apartments
First, I can’t say thank you enough for any feedback that you have on any of these apartments. I have been scouring the threads for apartment recommendations and emailed several. Of course, as luck has it, none of my top choices or recommendations are available. So, I have found some apartments that are open, but I haven’t found anything specific for recommendations.
I will be traveling to Paris with my mother (56) sister (32) and my niece (10) the last week in September. I have been to Paris once, but stayed about an hour outside of the city, so I don’t know a lot about where to stay.
I want to stay somewhere that is safe, quiet, close to a market and metro. Overall, my top choice would be somewhere near the Rue Cler, Luxemborg Gardens, or any place that’s quiet for the 10 year old.
What do you think of these apartments? Otherwise, do you have any suggestions for any other apartments?
http://www.alacarte-paris-apartments...lassical.shtml (top choice, due to the 2 beds/2 baths, worried that there may not be a market near by)
http://www.alacarte-paris-apartments...lassical.shtml (most expensive)
http://www.vacationinparis.com/apts/id_219.htm (worried it may be too far from a market)

http://www.parisattitude.com/apartme...umProduit=1181 (worried that it may be too far from a market)
http://www.vrbo.com/160830

Thank you so much!

Just anotherplace to look at;
www.parisperfect.com
Most of them are in the 7th..many in the Bordonnais/St.Dominique area. I stay in them regularly and have stayed in many of them. I was there for a month in Sept./Oct and the first half of De. I am returning for a month in mid April.
I am sure that if you ask you will find that there is a 15% discount for being a Fodorite!
They are nice in every possible way.
If any questions, just ask.
Enjoy...

YK, I am really sorry about that. I forgot to "tag" the post with France and I thought it was lost. I am new to this, but I promise not to make the same mistake again.
Grace Joan, thank you very much for the tip about 15%! I will look into them, but I believe they may be out of my budget =(

What exactly do you mean or want when you say you want to be close to a market? Do you mean a supermarket or an outdoor market for food? Or do you mean the ones with cheap clothes and other goods that are roving markets and occur once or twice a week in some areas (and usually have some kind of foods, also)?
Rue Cler is not a market, but is that what you want? It's a street with shops, and is sometimes called a market street (rue de Buci is another example of that in St Germain), but it's not what I call a market, so I'm not sure if you mean that or the roving markets.
okay, the first one on rue Vanneau is not that near a market, but it depends how close you want to be. There is the Raspail market on Tues. and Fri on bd Raspail between rue du Cherche Midi and Rennes, but that isn't super close. So I agree that is probably not what I'd call near a market.
The second one on rue du Cherche Midi is very near the first one, but it is a couple blocks closer to that Raspail market.
The third one on Duquesne at Lowendal isn't an appealing area to me, it's the military school right there. But it's no farther than the second one from a market, the Saxe-Breteuil market is on ave Saxe on Thursdays and Saturdays.
VIP 123 you don't comment on but it's not near any market I know of, and I stay in that area a lot. It's on rue Vavin near Notre Dame des Champs. That probably is a fairly inconvenient location for markets in general, and I'm not sure there is even a supermarket near there. There used to be an Ed l'Epicier around there, but I'm not sure now.
PA 1181 is around Invalides area, I don't think it's near any market, either. It looks like rue Jean Nicot between Grenelle and St Dominique. There are certainly shops around there, but no big market if that's what you want.
I can't even figure out where VRBO 160830 is located, and I got tired of looking on that website to see if they say. It's somewhere in the 7th, I get that and they claim rue St Dominique is "just around the corner" but I don't know where on that street this is or what street it is. It could be very near PA1181, I suppose, who knows.

I'm partial to Vacation In Paris, having just rented an apartment from them in the 6th. Very easy to deal with, they mail the keys to you, the security deposit is very reasonable, and they take credit cards (via PayPal).
The VIP apartment 219 is maybe a 3 minute walk from Ave. de la Motte Piquet and the "Shopi" supermarket, with rue Cler just another 50 yards away, if that is a positive thing for you (very controversial on this site, but I liked it). There are also Franprix markets all over the place - I wouldn't be worried about being too far from a market.
If the a La Carte "Left Bank Classical" apartment is your first choice, and it looks nice, there is a Franprix market a block away, at the corner of rue Vaneau and rue de Sevres. It's even open Sunday! You would also be maybe a 3 minute walk from the amazing epicerie at Le Bon Marche. Also, the Vaneau Metro stop is right there as well.
You are probably a ten minute walk from both the Luxembourg Gardens and rue Cler.
By the way, we took our 10 and 12 year olds last month. Your niece may enjoy the Deyrolle taxidermy shop, nearby on Rue du Bac, as well as the various pet shops on Quai de la Megisserie, in addition to the usual suggestions.
Have fun!

Thank you so much for your responses, I greatly appreciate them, so keep them coming!
As far as a market goes, I apologize that I didn't clarify. Basically, we are looking for a place to go to buy all the food that is needed for a week, so think milk, eggs, produce, etc. Since we won't have a car, I want to make sure we are close enought to walk with a lot of groceries.

Wrxchic,
Your first choice looks like a great place. Do you have a map of Paris to check the locations? There is a Franprix right at the end of your street on Rue de Sevres. You can look at the websites of Franprix and Monoprix to see locations.
I wouldn't be too concerned about finding a market. There are food stores everywhere in Paris and you'll never be far from one. Pick up your basics, then shop day to day for your bread, croissants, cheese, etc. The first apartment is near Le Grand Epicerie, the wonderful market at Bon Marche. Besides the outdoor market at Raspail, there is a fabulous market on Saturdays and Thursdays(?) at Saxe-Breteuil, right off Avenue de Breteuil.
If you go to www.pagesjeunes.fr and put in an address, you can search for stores and also see photos of your street and neighborhood.

I'm also partial to Vacation In Paris as they are SO easy to deal with and the deposits are very low. Mine was $300, for Apt #122, which I had for a week.
Plus, I was able to just mail them a personal check to pay for it all, in dollars, and got the keys about 2 weeks before I left home. I don't like having to meet with someone to let me into an apartment especially with the unpredictability of airline arrivals. Happy Travels!

Hi,
Pardon the intrusion, I am the owner of vrbo 160830. We don't post the location on vrbo because we're uncomfortable doing that. However, we're happy to let anyone interested in renting know. All anyone has to do is to e-mail us. I am sorry for the inconvenience. It's on avenue de la Bourdonnais, where rue St. Dominique and avenue Rapp intersect avenue de la Bourdonnais. The number is 53, but if you look on the map, you'll see the intersection.

Interesting comment, I often won't even pursue a place that doesn't state fairly clearly where it is as I just don't have time to fool around with secretiveness (and often it's deliberate because it's an inferior location). I wasn't interested in that apt., but out of curiosity as a renter, what does your comment mean? I can't figure out what would make one uncomfortable about being clearer on the location of an apartment. I just can't even imagine what problem that could cause to say it's on ave Bourdonnais, at the intersection of xxxx just as you did here if you don't want to give an exact address.
Some people who know Paris well or that area will know that certain streets are very long so you want to know exactly where on that street, and some owners who claim things are just around the corner are stretching the truth and it's blocks away.
So what problem could it cause, owner of 160830, if you were more explicit in the online ad as to the location instead of expecting people to contact you to ask you questions and wait for a response?

Last month my family and I stayed at :-
http://www.vrbo.com/196919
5th arr, quiet location, Metro nearby, street market around corner, supermarche nearby, internet access, shower and bath, laundry, great kitchen, 2 bedrooms, large lounge, tastefully decorated, 1000 euro/week - couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Dear Christina, from your comment I seem not to have made things any better. Apologies to you and the others. If you look at my ad, I do say that the apartment is on avenue de la Bourdonnais just around the corner from rue St. Dominique. That's an intersection, and I thought many people would find that more helpful than street numbers when looking at general maps (I suppose there is Google Earth). I understand your point that Paris streets are very long, and perhaps some owners stretch things, but I think my description is accurate, just around the corner does not mean a block away and it is unfortunate that some owners may do that. I am uncomfortable posting the building number to the world since that is my Paris address, but am happy to share it with persons interested in renting it. I thank you for your detailed comment, and will try to re-write my description to give a more accurate peg on the location. Best regards, Chris
