We have one night in Nice in July and need a recommendation for a 3 or 4 star hotel. We will be driving in from St. Remy and dropping off our rental car in Nice.

This question has been answered a lot lately. Another poster here ( Underhill) has pointed out that LA PEROUSE is the best hotel in Nice, but it is pretty expensive.

I would also recommend:

Hotel Grimaldi
Hotel West End

Check out the reviews on tripadvisor.com. I used that to choose my 2* Nice hotel and absolutely loved it.

La Perouse is always my choice in Nice. It even has a nice pool if you don't want to walk across the street to the beach. With a balcony facing the Med, you can look westward across the entire arc of beach and the Blvd des Anglais -- quite a view. Although La Perouse is on the east end of the popular stretch of beach, it's close to the flower market and the old downtown. And there's parking for your car in a basement under the flower market. I mentioned La Perouse several times. It's wonderful. Rooms not overlooking the water are less expensive.
