One day in Rome

We're flying in to Rome on a Sunday, planning to spend one night, then drive up to Tuscany. I know we can't see anything in depth. Would appreciate recommendations for an afternoon tour to give us an overview of the city. Also, can you recommend a moderate hotel that's convenient to the airport, but also has a little charm?
Thanks!

I would not choose any hotel that is "convenient" to the airport. The airport ids not near anything interesting, and taxi service to and from the airport is reliable and worth the price, 24 hours a day.

Is a moderate hotel $275 USD a night to you? $175? $75?

Take a look at www.venere.com and also Fodors Rants'n'Raves (access it by clicking on "Hotels" at the top of any page on this forum).

Best wishes,

Rex

By moderate, I'm thinking under $200. Rex, you're probably right about not staying near the airport. Recommend a good neighborhood?

Centro Storico. The Cesari might fit your budget. I fear that del Senjato will not.

Check out www.venere.com or www.eurocheapo.com
