Olympic Airlines experiences

We will be flying from NYC to Athens in April on Olympic Airlines and I would like some feedback. Fear of bankrupcy and delayed flights crew smoking on the plane are some things I have seen on some sights. Please let me know what you experienced. Thanks.

I flew them back in 1998 from London to Athens, it was a diffrent experience from Air Canada that I was used to. At that point they still allowed smoking on the Olympic planes but they have since thankfully stopped. I actually found the food on the plane to be very good and an unusually large portion. The plane was clean but very full and the flight crew wasn't horrible just sort of indiffrent.

We flew Olympic once in 1997 from JFK to Athens. We sat on the runway for 4 hours due to mechanical problems, and they didn't even want to give us water or bread.

Customer service -- non existent. Attitude -- prevelant.

Maybe that was the exception rather than the rule, but I would never fly them again.

I once flew them from London to Athens on standby. Turned out the plane was almost empty, maybe 20 passengers. The service was very good and there were no problems with delays or lost baggage.

It looks like a toss up of good and bad so far. Thanks for the input.

I've never flown Olympic long haul (and never will) but we flew them three years ago on a short (90 minute) flight from Dubai to Kuwait.

The interior of the plane was dirty and worn and the staff was bad tempered and surly.

The flight left at 3 am, so that was probably a factor, but the experience left a bad first impression and I doubt I'd fly them again.

The good news - we took off, we landed.

I spoke to my travel agent and the NY to Athens planes are supposed to be newer Airbus 300-340 aircraft. hopefully they will be clean.

Well, I just got a call from my travel agent and Olypic has cancelled our May 1st flight from Athens to NYC. Our vacation will be cut short by one day. From what I have read on posts and now with my experience I would suggest paying a little more and avoiding Olympic.
