Joan,

We are just back from Christmas in Paris and is was just great. We did not get to eat at some restaurants we wanted to because l'as a Moele closed for the holidays right after we got there. However, we did get to eat at Reed on our last day and both the food and the owner were lovely. We also ate at l'Atelier and we had a very nice meal. The food there was excellent, beef cheek and the famous mashed potatoes! Excellent. And a la Denise and Chazz, my husband got sick so Christmas dinner at Violin d' Ingres had to be cancelled as we could not leave the apartment. Oh well, we intend to be back in March to try again. Thank you for your advice and I will be following your next report in anticipation! Again, Reed was truly great food and a terrific find. I cannot recommend it highly enough!

Lrock5...you truly have my sympathies. I would do anything to spare others the stomach virus misery while in Paris. Why does it have to hit on holidays? Two delicious meals missed at Violon d'Ingres (well 3, I guess) because of illness. So sorry!

I have been to L'Atelier twice and have not gotten the famous mashed potatoes yet! Glad you liked Reed...we really did and I hope Catherine is successful!

Glad you enjoyed your trip and so sorry that you had the stomach virus, too!! Not needed, for sure.

I will be arriving in Paris on Jan 23..will be hopping over to London for a few days and will be returning home on Feb 3. Not staying long at this time...

Thanks again, Joan, for all your advice. Hope your Jan 23 visit is good. We will be returning next Thanksgiving if not before.

Our youngest, the study abroad student, is heartbroken about having to leave Paris and return to "real" life. I picked her up at the airport Dec 23 and she broke into tears. A parent near me said, "Wow, she really was homesick." And I said, "No, actually she IS homesick."

How do you explain that all of us get "homesick" for Paris?

Oh well--she's a good student and I bet she will find her way back for her career. And then she can put us all up!
