L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon..yes, it has become very popular. Have not been in some time.

I did just look about a reservation for when a friend will be there in Nov. They do not take reservations, so it says! I will call when I gat there.

Hi Joan-

They do take reservations but only for the first and last seatings at lunch and only at 6:30 for dinner on their website.

http://www.joel-robuchon.net (Click reservations, then choose the St Germain or Etoile location)

We have made reservations there online both times we went. Just checked site to be sure they still do, but again if you want to go later, you can't reserve online.

I just looked at exchange rates and think Monday will be a good day to drop in to my bank and order mine! It is about as low as it has been..that is until I order mine..then it will go even lower!! Makes no difference, I need so little for the 2 months! Yes, I know that most of you use ATM's! I need so little cash, that the small extra I pay I just consider it as being for my convenience!

Joan, you may already be there. But I know you'll check in.

Have you seen these?

and

Exhibit: Cezanne et Paris. Musee du Luxembourg. Oct 12 - Feb 26

I can't wait to see them in November!

I saw the other place and I would have chosen the Publicis Drugstore location in a heartbeat.

Hi Joan,

Could I ask for a bit of advice please? I am going to be in Paris for a week,Oct. 7 to 13 and would like to have at least one or two nice restaurant meals. Since I will be dining solo I am wondering about the protocol and would also like a couple of recommendations. Is it better to go early or does it matter? I am staying in the 6th but can get around fairly easily.

I have been following your sojourns in Paris with great interest and am looking forward to reading the next instalments when I get back home.
Thanks.

Printemps,

"Nice" restaurant meals can mean different things to different people! Also the accompanying price for same! Are you thinking of a starred restaurant for lunch or dinner, or just some pleasant place with good food?

Solo does not matter! Early or later is a personal preference..earlier will be more tourists and later being more French.

You say you are staing in the 6th but can easily use metro/bus?

Let me know a bit more what you are thinking of in the 'nice' restaurant and the pricing. A real bargain for a 'nice' restaurant is Violon d'Ingres on St. Dominique in the 7th. Easy to get to from the 6th..bus/metro.

a bientot..

Bonjour Joan,

Thanks so much for your quick response. Violon d'Ingres sounds like a wonderful suggestion. Isn't that where you took a cooking lesson on one of your trips? I think a starred restaurant
would be great for one meal and then the others a 'pleasant place with good food'. I'm more of a bus person than metro, like cabs also. I don't want to blow my budget on one meal but have become used to Paris prices so it is not a shock any more. What time do you usually go?

A few more names would be very much appreciated. And, should I phone for a reservation once I am in Paris? Merci,

Cordialement,
Printemps

Yes, I did the cooking class there last year...and I don't cook!!

If you have never been to the Les Ambassaeurs Sunday brunch you might like to give it a try..then wander the hotel and do the gift shop...Anoher favorite is Bar Vendome at the Ritz...

Hi Joan,

No, I've never set foot in the Crillon, but have always wanted to so this seems a perfect opportunity. Checked out the menu and dining room, it looks very grand. ( I may have to buy a new handbag!)

Thanks so much for your suggestions. I appreciate your help. I will be looking forward to your reports from Paris, especially since by then I hope to have been to a couple of the places you mention.

Cordialement,

Printemps...the Crillon is so classically lovely. You have to at least set foot in it!! We enjoyed their brunch last year (Joan's recommendation).

The tables were so gorgeous and the food was first rate! Somewhere in my T/R from Christmas there are links to pictures, if you would like to see them. (Christmas in Paris was fantastic was the T/R).

The Crillon has been bought by the 2nd son of the King of Saudi Arabia and is undergoing extensive re-modeling. I don't think money is of any concern!!

I do enjoy their l'Obe restaurant on Sundays. They say it is the day that all their long time 'nice' customers come..along with a few hotel guests. Quite different on week days with the embassy locations around etc. I have reservations for one Sunday now, and am sure I will be here more than once.

Just heard from some friends who I introduced it to them and they were there this past Sunday and said "better than ever!"

a bientot.....

Bonjour,

Denise, I do remember reading and enjoying your trip report last Christmas.I just looked at your photos again and saw the ones of you at the Crillon brunch. Looks wonderful, and so elegant.
I just called the Crillon and they are fully booked for the brunch on this coming Sunday.
I decided to go on Saturday rather than be on the waiting list. I will think of somewhere else for Sunday.

Thanks again Joan, I leave tomorrow.
A la prochaine

Printemps,

You are going to Les A for Sat lunch?? You may not want to go back to same hoel on Sunday, but l'Obe is wonderful!

You can also go to Bar Vendome at Ritz for Sunday lunch..contact them today for reservation, if interested.

For Sunday dinner Pasco's is a good spot...

a bientot...

Email them and tell them that you have a a reservation and the time and that if possible that you would prefer one of the nice tables that back up to the outdoor garden.

I know you will enjoy...

The Bar Vendome is on your left upon entering...Ladies room is on down the lobby and on the right..glass walls...do continue following the signs to the Hemingway Bar..it will not be open but you will enjoy the walk!

I will be there on the 14th!!

a bientot...
