I just made lunch reservations for Armistice Day! For the past several years I have gone to Bar Vendome at the Ritz. See no reason to change. Sue from Green Bay area will be in Paris and will be joining me.

I really do have a restaurant list that I am going to seriously dig into this trip. I just may discover some real gems! So many of them so nearby. What I so like about the western area of the 7th, wonderful area to live, dine and the convenience to everything!

a bientot...

Am so ready to go!!

There is no shortage of great places to go...we are struggling with going back to favorites and checking out new places, although we look forward to Le Florimond and were excited to see great reviews for LF on Trip Advisor. Our week just doesn't allow for enough...even your 6-8 weeks probably doesn't allow for enough!

Hi Denise,

My list is a mile long, but some great places, I think. I may be trying some ahead of your arrival to be able to tell you about. I will be posting daily and you may see something that you will want to try. I could make a reservation ahead for you, too.

Just received confirmation of Armistice Day at Bar Vendome!

You will need a reservation at Le Florimond and cannot do it online. Select the date and I can make it for you. Florent and Michel love the place and know we will probably be going back some time while I am there.

I know I am going to have some great places nearby..

Beginning to check the weather more often now, too.

a bientot..

Hi Joan-

Thanks, you're a gem!

I think we will want to get to Le Florimond early in the week, I have some friends coming over from Germany late in the week, so we will want to hit Le Florimond on Tuesday night, I think.

That would be November 22, I think.

Joan: I know you as a Paris expert on this site, but now I know you also as a very funny person. Just love the PIG story!!

Thanks for it and for all your info. on Paris. My only regret is that DH and I will be in Paris this fall, but are leaving on October 11, just missing meeting you by a few days!

You're one of my fodorite heros!

Sorry that we will miss each other by so few days! I am returning mid March to mid May next!!

I think women enjoyed the pig story more than men..I wonder why?

Joan,

We are thinking of going to Paris over Christmas week. We went last March for 2 weeks and are having Paris withdrawals. I always follow your stays but can't remember if you have ever been over Christmas. If so, is anything at all open the day after? I don't expect much on christmas day, but I just wanted to know about the few says after. We are thinking the 23-30th of December. Thanks so much and have a fabulous time!

Hi Irock5,

I was in Paris from mid Dec until Dec.30 several years back. For dining best to plan for a hotel that has dining. They have to serve their guests! That particular year I had dinner on Christmas Eve at Violin d'Ingres. They are not open Christmas Eve anymore. I had Christmas dinner at Les Ambassadeurs..The Crillon. If I were going to be there I would make a Christmas dinner reservation at Bar Vendome in the Hotel Ritz. I know they will be serving. You won't go hungry!

Yes, I found things open between Christmas and New Year's. Many people look forward to a Paris trip at this time of the year. You will find the daylight hours short and the weather..who knows!! But you are in Paris!! The decorations are beautiful. I stay in the western part of the 7th..Bourdonnais/St. Dominique area..A walk across the Seine and past the high fashion shops on Montaigne to Rond Point and Champs Elysees is a great thing to do...

I am looking forward to my upcoming trip...

a bientot...

Joan,
Thank you for your reply. We are still debating whether to go as we have an Italy trip planned for March. I feel a little guilty doing both. However, our children have all moved out and we have always wanted to see Paris at Christmas. In 2006, we brought our 3 kids for Thanksgiving week. But we have never been for the holidays. We stay in the 15th at a friends apartment. I am going to continue to watch airfare and live through your posts for the time being. I thought I remembered you mentioning eating at the Crillon in earlier posts. When I win the lottery it is the one hotel I want to stay at!

We would like to go to l'Atelier also. Saw it on Anthony Bourdain and it looks great. We stayed in the 7th our first trip at Hotel du Champ de Mars. We did go to the Hemingway Bar on our trip in March but only had drinks. Writing this is making me really want to go!!!!!!

Have a great trip and thank you for your advice!

Getting more things in order. Weekender will arrive on Oct. 28, taking Euostar from London and he will then will leave from Paris. He had suggested our dining at Le Florimond, so Florent has made our reservations. We will have a good catch up visit! Sorry that Florent and Michael will not be able to join us.

For you travelers about this time. DST changes in France on Sunday Oct. 30, but not in US until following weekend, Nov. 6.

I am watching weather now to get an idea of the trend..whatever that might mean! From mid Oct to mid Dec can see big changes!

I'm also watching the exchange rates..seem to be going down. I will order mine one of these days soon! Maybe next week.

a bientot...

gracejoan: on the CC thread you mentioned some dining spots you were thinking of trying in the upper 15th. I would appreciate it if you would share some names. I would also love the name of Sthephane Schmidt's new restaurant. A google search didn't show up anything.

Tuscanlifeedit,

Stephan has bought l'Os a Moelle on Vasco de Gama. I have been meaning to go there for some time, so now I am sure that I will get there. There are 2 others on Vasco de Gama that I wil go to..they are Beurre Noisette and Opus Vins. Also Le Casse Noix. Court Bouillon is a good one, I have been there for lunch and dinner. Nice people. Will check out La Gauloise...I have reason to think all are worth trying, along with quite a few others. Some may bomb, but some may turn out to be gems!!

Yes, weekender and I may end up at the Ritz Bar Vendome on the 29th!! I can take the Bar Vendome any time!! They have my Armistice Day lunch reservation. Seems that I have done that for several years now.

looking forward to all..

a bientot...

Joan

The rue Commerce area is really a great shopping area. Can walk ther via so many great ways..the Parc du Champ de Mars is always great.

Just to make all of us feel more comfortable with our flights, we can now wonder thelocation of the thousands of portable missiles that are missing in Libya? They say they can easily shoot down commercial airliners!
