Denise,

For us, it is worth the extra $$ but we are much older than you so we really enjoy the extra 6-7 inches in pitch and another inch or so in width. We only take the AF flights as they are the only non-stop flight from SFO. It is a shared flight with Delta and AlItalia and always full. Those long flights are really hard on my old bones.

So, when are you leaving Paris. We arrive on the 2nd staying with Joan as our apartment is not ready till the 3rd. Maybe we can meet. You are familiar now as I've read and saw your pictures from your Christmas trip. That was a lot of fun to see you and Chaz enjoying yourselves!

I meet Joan in person on Monday, finally!

Lilla- I am feeling my age so any extra comfort on those awful flights is welcome...just wondered is it is really any better than regular coach.

We are there over Thanksgiving. Arrive on 11/21 and out 11/28.

When do you leave?

Hi Joan,
Sorry to hijack this thread but we have had major computer problems and only have your email address that was compromised during your last trip. Could you send us a quick note so we can get you back in our address book? Wish we would be in Paris when Lilia and Tom are there and we could all get together. The good news is that we should cross paths in the spring as we will be back on track with our travels!

Just returned from a quick trip to Paris. This time I brought DH & now he gets why I'm so infatuated with the city. The sun didn't set until approximately 10:30pm and the sales in were great. Once again, I stayed at the Hotel Duquesne and had a magical view of the Eiffel Tower (should've stayed for Bastille Day for fireworks, my planning error). We compared gelato from Berthillon and Amorino, both are delicious.

Joan, your friends Florent (Flirt The) & Laurent (Florimond) send their wishes and are waiting for you. It's nice to re-visit cafes, restaurants, etc. and run into familiar faces. After trying Violon D'Ingres the last trip, I tried Cafe Constant and loved it. Travel guru Rick Steves happened to be there the same night. Le Florimond still remains my favorite.

I'm sure one day we will meet each other again in Paris, Joan. As I unpack today, I am already thinking of when to return...

Violon d'Ingres used to be my favourite restaurant in Paris. Is it still good?

P_P, still great and powerful

P_P,

I'm sure Joan will agree with me that Violon d'Ingres is still very good!! I had my birthday meal there in February - really lovely.

Roberta,

You should have stayed for Bastille Day but there are other trips. Paris is always very crowded on that day with the parade, the end of Tour de France, concert and the fireworks later today (I believe at 2:00 pm Pacific Time).

I am about ready to celebrate with a girlfriend for a Bastille Day lunch - I'm wearing my ET earrings today.

Hoping to meet you one of these days in Paris!

Violon d'Ingres was a wonderful experience when I went there last October.

Lilia, Happy Bastille Day to you! It would've been nice to see the fireworks from my balcony since I had a perfect view. Like you said, there are other trips...One day I'm sure we will all meet during one of Joan's trips.

Hi Roberta,

Glad to see your post after receiving your email. Hope Rick Steves didn't spoil your meal at Cafe Constant!!

Glad Laurent took good care of you at Le Florimond. Yes, their chou farci is popular! A lot to eat!!

I had a message for Florent and Michael today. They are in Brittany to Michaels' family for the holiday! I think they may come to the US next year. Florent has not taken care of his passport, though. I told him he may mess it up if he doesn't get going on it now!!

Many of us should try to plan ahead a bit for our timing. I do have my dates for both Spring and fall next year if all want to begin planning now. We could have a great get together at Violon..Christian would probbly make it special as he does for our Annual Thanksgiving at Violon!!

Just heard from Pat and Jim and they will be back on schedule beginning next year. They sold their house so don't have to sit on that!

Looking forward to meeting Denise on Monday!!

a bientot....

Hi, Joan.

I could use some advice please. We will be travelling by train from CDG to Avignon on Monday, October 31st. Our plane arrives at 6:10am.

We may buy 4 tickets on the 8:21 TGV, but we would be gambling. If we're late and our gamble doesn't pay off, we'd be out the price of a Prems ticket and have to book on a later train at last minute prices.

My concern is that this will be the Monday of the All Saints holiday. Should we be concerned about availability on those later trains if we had to buy at the last minute? I wouldn't think that holiday would affect the CDG line that much. But would appreciate your input. (I'm not saying this is the only concern. I don't know if we'll try to cut it that close or not.)

JeanneB,

People will be taking the long weekend and may be returning home on Monday. I would think there would be less heading down to Avignon on Monday..would seem more returning from there! We were doing this, but some other things have come up with Florent and Michael and we may wait til next Spring!

As far as your flight and amount of time..that is always a guess...If on time and all goes well fine. There are many trains to Avignon..look for prems or other low prices on a later one to feel safer. you can have breakfast at CDG and then go on.
a bientot...

JeanneB, I'm not Joan but I think it may depend on your airline and which terminal you arrive in and if you are checking bags. If you don't have to bus between terminals, you should be OK.

I know, many things to consider. Delta usually arrives in Terminal 2, which is good. I know it's no guarantee, but my experience has been that this flight arrives a few minutes early.

All in all, I'm really inclined to go for the earlier train. Can't stand the thought of hanging around CDG for 5 hours. But then, if we're late, I also hate to think how expensive those last minute tickets might be! Tough call.

JeanneB,

I fly Delta/A/F codeshare out of ATL all the time. Generally it is early 1/2 hr or more.

I guess I missed that your next train was a 5 hour wait! I would go for the early one.

a bientot..

That's been my experience, too. I don't believe I've ever taken that flight that it wasn't early.

I don't like to arrive that early..too early for Paris! I take the one that gets in about 8:15. That works out perfect. I get to apt. and settle in there and go to Les Cocottes for lunch. This is my usual

In Oct I will be on the 11:30 flight arrival, so will probably not unpack. I need to meet a friend for lunch anyway. May make a reservation at Violon, instead. A very good way to begin Paris!! Or we will go see Florent and have a light lunch there...choices, choices.....

a bientot..

Joan,

It sounds as if there will another wonderful Thanksgiving gathering in Paris this year! John and I will certainly miss being there.

One highlight of our Paris trip last year with granddaughter Hannah was the wonderful Thanksgiving dinner Christian prepared at Violon d' Ingres. Ah, the memories!

This year we will be in Italy during that time, but you know where our hearts will be on Thanksgiving evening!

Hi Byrd,

How nice to hear from you! We did have fun and we will have a great time again this year I know!

I hope you will be in Paris again when I am there so that we might share some more good times.

I hope you can find a place for an American Thanksgiving in Italy!!

a bientot...
