I read about the 2 seatings at Spring going forward. I wonder if Daniel is feeling pressured to turn tables to satisfy his investors. It just seems so unlike what the original Spring was all about.

The wine bar downstairs will now be serving the same prix fixe as upstairs, but without the advantage of seeing Daniel and his chefs in action. I don't think the atmosphere of Spring will be the same with all these changes. Too bad ~ this has always been our favourite restaurant in Paris. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I am so glad we got to have lunch 2 weeks ago ,watching the chefs and Daniel was part of the whole experience. It was a great lunch. My husband Bill and I tried to make a reservation before going to Paris, and they were booked. We took a chance and called one day,and they had a cancellation for the next day.So glad we called.

RE Spring:
•Spring Restaurant is no longer serving lunch, except on Fridays. In place of lunch, the restaurant is adding a second seating for the tasting menu at dinner. In addition, the cellar – with the exception of four stools – is no longer being used as a wine bar. According to Josh Adler, ”we are serving the menu spring upstairs and downstairs by reservation now starting at 7 pm. The high seats at the bar are still available with no reservation for cheese, wine, and charcuterie, but there are only a few of them. We are encouraging more walk-ins to come early and/or later, and while we can’t guarantee seats, we can often find a place.”

So, the 2nd seating will be the tasting menu and the first seating the regular menu! Therefore different pricing obviously! I think that we may have enjoyed the 'best' of Spring in the past! Also as has been mentioned with Daniel passing on some of the cooking to others, it is not the same..some even saying disappointing! As so often happens..bigger not always better!

Oh, that's too bad...often times improvements are not really improvements at all...Spring was just written up in GQ a few months ago...seems like the publicity always ends with more of a negative impact

I have not had time to return here for some time it looks like!

Coasting along with things accumulating for fall. I have made my flight reservations for next Spring. Mid March to mid May. I upgraded to the new Voyageur premium in one direction with A/F and the Delta Comfort Seat in the other. Bound to be better. The A/F look better than the Delta ones...not surprising!

a bientot....

Hi Denise,

Call A/F and see if they have any available premium seats for you. You do not have to buy them round trip and they are not offerred on every flight. I searched for the ones that did have the option..especially going over....

We just finalized our flights for being in Paris the first week of November! Yeaaaaaa! We're staying in Paris Perfect Beaume de Venise, 7th.

Joan, I praised you to the heavens in my emails with Paris Perfect. Told them you were an invaluable asset to their company.

We'll also be in Provence from 10/31 to 11/4. Haven't decided where to sleep yet. I've posted a thread asking for Provence advice.

Hope to see you all in Paris!

Since we're staying in the 7th I want to go back and read all your wonderful threads from past trips. Do you have a list of them by any chance? I'd hate to miss one!

We have the Premium Voyageur seats from Air France. We found the seats more comfortable. Tom can sleep now - he used to be so miserable on those flights so he lets me go on solo trips but since my hospital stay at Cochin in September 2009, no more solo trips for me.

Denise - see if you can upgrade to the premium seats - they only have 21 of those in their Airbus 330 and 340 but if the plane is a B747, they have approx. 60 seats located in the upper level. It is nice and quiet and service is not as hectic. There is a small storage if you get a window seat.

Jo - I'm going to miss you again this year. It was too bad that you and Den were so tired after having the newbies with you that you missed the evening get-together at Le Reminet. Maybe next year!

We're looking forward to meeting more Fodorites in December.

bisous,
Lilia

If you are going to Provence I would suggest you look where I stay. http://www.riboto-de-taven.fr/anglais.htm A different world. Clean, clean air, very laidback..super dining and lovely. I will find my posts from April of 2oo9, I think with photos there. Easy TGV to Avignon and car and I have special way I go to get there. Just remembered that Riboto closes Nov 1st. We may be going down their last weekend open Oct 28 to Oct 31. This will take in the All Saints Day holdiay for my Paris friends to get away.

Have so much going on!!

a bientot...

You are staying in a very new PP apartment on ave Bosquet. I know you will enjoy! I may run into you on the streets of Paris!

have changed my return flight and am not in Premium Economy yet...right now plenty of seats and the agent booked us 1 row behind PE on Delta...so now...how much better is Prem Economy than regular economy? Worth the $80/seat?

I don't know how much better. I will appreciate it more on the overnight flight than the return day flight.

Lilia says it is much better, but that is A/F and I will be taking both A/F and Delta so will check them out to see if worth it!

a bientot..

Gracejoan:

Yes, we're bound to be tripping over each other the way our paths are crossing!! We have booked Mas de Carassins in St Remy.

Do you happen to know the closest cross street to our apartment so I can more closely locate it? I'm determined to conquer the night/weekend bus schedules this time! We don't usually stay in the 7th, but it has always seemed to me that there are fewer good metro options there. But bus stops are everywhere.

Don't go to a lot of trouble looking up your trip reports. Just tell me how many and approx dates. I just want a "check sheet" to know I've covered them all. Thx

Buses are the way to go..forget metro..buses are sooo much better. From the 7th you can catch a bus to anyplace!!

Go to google maps and street view your apt address. It is on Ave Bosquet between St. Dominique and Grenelle

Thanks for the cross streets. I don't have an address, but that will get me close enough to look at the bus routes. I agree wholeheartedly about bus v. metro.

I was so happy the day I figured out the bus lines! Well, I still have trouble with the night buses for some reason. But I'm going to correct that on this trip.

JeanneB,

There are two bus lines that we used to take on Bosquet - one of them take the kids to school but that was many moons ago - the 92 that takes you to Montparnasse one way and to the 17th arrondisement the other way passing by the Etoile (thru avenue Marceau) and the 80 which we take only one way to Montmartre (rue Caulaincourt). Of course as soon as you walk to Ecole Militaire, you have lots to choose from. You will enjoy that location.

Enjoy your bus rides. As Joan said, they are so much better than the metro. My husband would rather walk than take the metro. You will be a bus expert after your stay on Bosquet.

Enjoy your planning and your upcoming trip.

-Lilia
