Hi Joan,

Ok, I sent off an email and will hope for the corner table by the garden. Will let you know how it all goes. I really appreciate your help. On the 14th I will be en route to London for the weekend and then home to Canada.

Am planning a month long trip to Paris in June of next year.
In the meantime I am looking forward to this trip and then to hearing about your experiences over the next couple of months. I still remember your photos of the wonderful Caesar Salad you had at the Bar Vendome. I may order that.
Thanks again,
Best,
Printemps

Hi gracejoan3,

On another thread, someone was asking about new resto, L'Opéra Restaurant in the Palais Garnier and I said I'd ask you about it. Is it on your food intinerary? If so, please let us know how it is. One poster said there is a formule lunch for 36 euros.

Here's the thread: http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...m#last-comment

Thanks and continued bon voyage!

TDudette,

I had asked about it on Chowhound earlier and with the bit of information that I received, I decided to pass on it. Not my decor! Here is an article, too:

http://hungryforparis.squarespace.co...a-garnier.html

Let others do more testing it. I have a pretty heavy list to try and hardly putting a dent in all that I might like to try. I am really trying out quite a few in the upper 15th..a nicely growing/changing area in many ways!

a bientot....

Joan,

When a friend suggested 7eme Vin, I said I thought I had "seen" it near our apartment (on Google maps). Turns out it's on the same street, just a couple of blocks down. She loved it and it gets terrific reviews on TA.

Have you eaten lunch or dinner there? We'll have one traveler who can't walk too far. Between this and the restaurants on Saint Dominique, she'd certainly have easily accessible choices!

JeanneB...

I had dinner there one evening in May 2010 and it was terrific. I recall it was a very small dining room so I'd recommend making a reservation the day before or the morning/afternoon of the day you'd like to dine there. I can't recall the exact prices on the menu, but don't think the prices were astromonical. I did a trip report, I don't have time to hunt right now, but I'll post a link or cut and past what I wrote about the place later this evening.

JeanneB...

Here's what I wrote about 7eme Vin. I was there in May 2010.

"We had an 8:30pm dinner reservation at 7eme Vin restaurant on Avenue Bosquet, kitty-corner from Le Terrasse. We decided to go to Le Terrasse for our evening aperitif of a demi-carafe of pouilly fume, for €18 this wine was very drinkable and provided us each with 2 glasses of wine. The waiter here was very friendly and applauded our fractured attempt at ordering in French.

Our meal at 7eme Vin was great. We had a bottle of the house white wine. When I saw the bone marrow starter on the menu I couldn’t resist and I’m glad I ordered this. Wow, one word to describe this dish…YUM! The bone was gigantic and the marrow was hot, hot, hot, it was perfect slathered on the toasted bread it came with. Mom had the white asparagus in white sauce starter. The asparagus were huge and delicious. For my main dish I had the monkfish special of the day with rice and broccoli, it was very good. Mom (at the suggestion of the woman sitting next to us) had the scallops for her main dish and they were fantastic. With 2 espressos to end the meal the total cost was about €90. We walked home and watched the Eiffel Tower sparkle from our living room sofa."

Hi Joan.

Just a quick word of thanks for suggesting the Crillon brunch. It was beyond amazing. I just got back from walking ((shopping) it off. I'm ready to drop. Tomorrow is the Ritz. Thanks again .

I did receive the confirmation from Joel Robuchon Etoile for our dinner. Will give it a a try!

I printed out my calendar for the many people comings/goings and my reservations so far, along with reservations for others!!It will help.

Weather cooling down. Glad for that. Did not need the 80's!

I did close the large suitcase and now only my laptop case that holds other things too. I have a small duffle bag that goes, too.

I will get the cat crates out today so the cats will know that they are about to go on vacation!I did all the shopping for them for their food..

Weekender and I are set for Le Florimond on 10/28 and we have added Bar Vendome for lunch on 10/29!! That will do it up well!

When I arrive in Paris I will begin October - December - Paris, Part II as we already have so many posts.

a bientot...

Can't wait to hear all about your trip...especially the food!

Safe travels.

Bonjour Joan,

Am back from a wonderful lunch at the Bar Vendome. The table by the garden was 'reserved' but I didn't mind cause my table in the centre had a lovely view into the garden, where several people were eating. I had the caesar salad and it was excellent. It is a superb setting with good food and service but the Crillon is sans pareil. No one at the Crillon seems to speak English so was unsure about the timing of the plat but figured it out.It was good to practice my French.
Thanks for your help in suggesting all this. I would never have done it otherwise. Now I have had two great meals and a memorable experience. Tomorrow I start my serious museum~going, finishing on
Thursday when I may go out for a farewell dinner. (Thinking of Le Florimond if I can get a reservation).

Hi Joan,

One last thing. Forgot to say thanks for your offer to be on the VIP list at the Crillon. I will definitely keep that in mind. Will look forward to your posts. Many thanks.

Printemps,

Les A and Bar Vendome are not to compare..you would compare the Ritz l'Espadon to Les A. It is quite lovely. I enjoy their l'Obe, as I have mentioned before. The big ones are nice for occasions. I had Christmas dinner at Les A. I like the cozier ones for more often.

Did you walk on down to Hemingways?

Glad you enjoyed! They are friendly, nice people!

Le Meurice can be good..but several have had bad experiences at the Meurice..including me!Last year it was bad and so crowded..it seemed like everyone was coming in off the street! The bar used to be nice!

Go to Florimond tomorrow to make reservation for Thursday, if that is where you want to go. You could also check Violon for Thursday. It is a very good buy!

I arrive on Friday....

a bientot...
