Hello Fodorites....we are planning a trip, hopefully, in October to bella Roma but we also want to visit Paris (we've been to both and are only planning about a week to do the trip). I'm wondering what your thoughts are on the best route to take from Rome to Paris in terms of airline suggestions. I would think the train would take way too long. We can also do it Paris to Rome as well...order doesn't really matter. Will probably try to fly Delta on the big legs as we have mileage.

If you take the train the voyage would be extremely long.The route Milan/ Paris is a little over 7 hours..without counting the extra 3 hours plus trip from Rome to Milan.

I always fly from FCOtoCDG..is so much faster and less tiring.

And definitely book your flights into Rome and home from Paris to avoid the time and cost of backtracking...

These are all "budget" airlines with charges for every service, clearly broken down on their websites. Book as soon as possible for the lowest fares. Sometimes the old airlines, to compete, offer low fares too.

Great. I did book my flights into Rome and out of Paris. this is for October of 2013 so I will focus on the Rome/Paris flights as soon as we decide how many days we want in each city. Thanks again for all the tips. Much appreciated.

Easyjet land in Orly not Beauvais. I believe that Ryanair land there.

I did book on Vueling...i hope they are reliable??? I had not heard of them before reading here. Anyone had experience??

Vueling is a reliable company..I have flown the same route fco/orly few times.

You can take the Orly bus to Paris although that usually I take a taxi..is more comfortable and the city is not too far from the airport.
Last time I paid around 27 Euro from Orly to Rue Bonaparte which is located in the 6th ARR.

day time trains do take all day, with a change in mIlano to boot. But there is I believe an overnight Thello train - or soon will be again rolling direct between Rome and Paris-Bercy station - same time really cause even flying can take up to half a day including pre-boarding time, late planes, getting to and in from airports, waiting for baggage, etc. and you also save on cost of a night in a hotel - arrives bright and early in Paris - can get private doubles - www.thello.com has some especially cheap advance prices (but though Paris-Venice has been running at night for months now not sure if the scheduled Rome to Paris night trains are yet in service - for lots on night trains check out these IMO infallible sources - www.seat61.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com. full fare on the spot tickets can cost a lot more than weeks in advance.

Yes the Rome to Paris overnight train is up and running again - leaves Rome most nights 19:25, arrives in Paris Lyon station 10:18 - does not appear to run every night however at quick glance.

Well yes it is Ryan Air that goes to remote Beauvais but check out Ryan Air as well and it is not a pain to get into Paris from the airport in Beavais at all as Ryan Air buses take folks directly from each arrival into Paris - nothing could be easier - though it can take a while and cost about $20 I believe.

Have you actually done this, Pal, or are you just speculating as you do so often? I have done it, and it is a PAIN, plus whatever savings in time you achieve by taking a plane is eaten up with the long ride, traffic, etc.
