Being Italian and having seen a lot of it, I would cut Lake Como.. not too much to see ..it is a place where to go and relax...is this your priority? I found it boring.. but, as someone has said, it is a personal thing..
check this place too near Siena:
www.villacatignano.it
you can rent apartment by the week.. it is only 15 minutes away from Siena.. it will cost you 20 Euro to go to town... train station is very convenient and you can save on rental car...
but not if you plan to visit the surrounding.. You can rent a SMART CAR .. THAT RUNS CHEAP...

Rome IS BEAUTIFUL.. it is 2000 years old...!! we have History and museums there... what do you want from your vacation? this is the question you have to ask yourself.. see many places or rest in one place and get sun tun?
Once you decide it...you know where to go..

Awesome stuff!! Elisabetta let's meet up I'll stop by your restaurant!

Here is my revised itinerary, probably will buy the plane tickets today. LAX-MXP (Oct. 10-21)

LOOKING FOR RELAXING ROMANTIC TRIP!

Fly into Milan
Take Train to Verona (See Guilietta's house Stay one night
Head to Venice- stay 3 nights take gondola ride and hit up Murano and Burano islands for day trips.

Then head to Genoa for a day and Vernazza for our beach trip. Stay 3 days in Vernazza.

Train it back to Milan stay a couple days then fly home.

I will save Southern Italy for another trip.

What do you think?

For these destinations can we train it everywhere?

The cheapest flights were out of Milan that I could find.

Thanks everyone!!!! Much Love!

Just to manage your expectations, there aren't really 'beaches' in Vernazza. The only town in Cinque Terre with a beach is Monterosso, and it's a rock beach so don't go expecting sand. There are rocks outside Vernazza (and the other CT towns) and you can lay on them and dive into the water, but please don't go expecting miles of sandy beaches.

Yes, you can train to the destinations you mentioned. Really to any major to medium Italian city/town. Busses connect smaller towns but the arrivals often coincide with lunchtime closings of many churches and sites so plan well with busses.

Can't wait to hear how things go!

When you priced out your flight, did you add up ALL the relevant cost?

LAX-MXP-LAX means train cost and time MXP-Milan, Milan-Venice.

If you do LAX-VCE, MXP-LAX as a "multi-city," then you eliminate the initial Milan-Venice leg. You can do Verona as a day trip from Venice to eliminate one nighter in Verona or catch Verona on the way to CT. According to www.grandistazioni.it, there is a baggage storage at the Verona station if you choose not to stay overnight there.
