no easyjet refund
Just wanted to relay the frustration we are having and maybe someone has a suggestion.
Upon our return to the Athens airport from the Greek islands, we were told our easyjet flight back to Italy had been cancelled.
We were told by the easyjet representative at the airport that we would be automatically refunded as the cancellation was within 5 days of travel. We were able to book another flight through Aegean Air. We did not receive a refund. We have tried to phone easyjet from Canada to no avail. We have e-mailed numerous times and written to their England address. If you have any suggestions please let us know. This was a 3 person trip and we are out over 500.00 Euros.
Thanks.

Sounds like a question for the Airlines forum or even a post on Flyer Talk.
If you happened to book with a credit card in the last 60 days you may be able to dispute the charge with you credit card...
Good luck in getting it resolved!

try finding a non-0870 number for Easyjet through www.saynoto0870.com & before you ring find a cheap phonecard to cut the transatlantic costs
The good news is that once you do get through they do refund you.
Otherwise complain to your CC company
As to why they don't refund automatically - it's because it's another source of profit to them if you don't claim the money back.

If your CC issuer is like mine the first thing they will ask when you attempt to dispute the charge is whether or not you have contacted EasyJet directly.
If you have attempted to do so and failed I suggest you document the times and dates you attempted to do so just in case that documentation is helpful.

Well now its the end of January - 6 months since we had our easyjet flight cancelled on us in Athens and still no response to our requests for a refund and no refund.
The last message I sent to easyjet said that my only option now was to warn others that if their easyjet flight is cancelled while travelling, they shouldn not expect a refund and maybe others will not suffer the loss that we have. 500 Euros to be exact.

From the Easyjet website (Be sure to read the whole thing before deciding what applies in your case)
**2. If your flight is cancelled as a result of extraordinary circumstances
... which could not have been avoided even though we took all reasonable steps , including but not limited to: [Air Traffic Control, Weather, Civil Unrest, Unexpected flight safety shortcomings...]....easyJet will not compensate you further other than providing you with one of the following options (“Re-routing and Reimbursement Options”):
You will be entitled to:
1. Re-routing to your final destination at the earliest opportunity; or
2. Re-routing to your final destination at later date at your convenience and subject to availability; or
3. note added by me, Sue - this doesn't sound like it would apply to you since the original flight to the Greek islands did serve the purpose of your original travel plan, although I admit to being confused by this section A refund of the fare paid for the journey not made and for the journey already made where the flight no longer serves the purpose of the original travel plan. This refund can be claimed by visiting our website (www.easyJet.com) and [completing the online cancelled flight form in the contact us section. Additionally, where relevant, we will offer a return flight to the first point of departure at the earliest available time....
...**3. If your flight is cancelled other than as a result of extraordinary circumstances which could not have been avoided even if all reasonable steps had been taken
You will be entitled to the above. In addition, you may be entitled to compensation in the sum of €250 if your flight is 1500km or less and €400 if your flight is over 1500km (“Compensation”). Please note that if you are offered re-routing under options 1 or 2 above, this sum will be reduced by 50% where your arrival time does not exceed the scheduled arrival time of your booked flight by 2 hours (flights of less than 1500kms) and 3 hours (flights of more than 1500km).
[bold type added by me, Sue ] You will not be entitled to Compensation in the following circumstances:
a) If you are informed of the cancellation at least 2 weeks before the scheduled time of departure; or
b) If you are informed of the cancellation between 2 weeks and 7 days before the scheduled time of departure and are offered re-routing, allowing you to depart no more than 2 hours before the scheduled time of departure and to reach your final destination less than 4 hours after the scheduled time of arrival; or
c) If you are informed of the cancellation less than 7 days before the scheduled time of departure and are offered re-routing, allowing you to depart no more than 1 hour before the scheduled time of departure and to reach your final destination less than 2 hours after the scheduled time of arrival.
*******
Questions:
a) Who paid for the Aegean Air flight, Easyjet or you? If the latter, then depending on circumstances, such as (this is very important) why Easyjet cancelled the flight, and what time the Aegean air flight took off/ arrived, that might be all the compensation you get.
b) If Easyjet paid for the Aegean air flight, what time did the Aegean air flight leave, relative to your original scheduled Easyjet flight?
General note: Always go by the written documentation, not what you are told by somebody at the airport (unless they write it down.)

Hi,
Thank you so much for your replies.
In response to your questions Sue, (a) we paid for the Aegean flight and it actually left earlier than our scheduled easyjet flight.
We were at the airport 3 hours prior to the easyjet departure time and were told then that the flight had been cancelled. There was no reason given and we have had no communication from easyjet since then. We would have been very happy if easyjet had paid for our Aegean flight. Even though the easyjet website refers to a refund form I have searched for it and cannot find it. I have provided everything to them anyway in writing by mail months ago.
Thanks again for your assistance, I just really wanted to warn others by airing my story.
