No deposit?

We reserved a room at a Bed and Breakfast in Piano di Sorrento for June, and were simply told that the room was "confirmed." Since there seems to be a slight language barrier, I just want to confirm that it is customary or normal to book a room without having to put down a deposit.

The paranoid New Yorker in me keeps envisioning showing up to a place that has not held a room for us!

Tell me I am being silly.
Thanks,

For hotels in Italy they usually ask for a CC number to hold it but they don't charge it unless you're a no-show. Maybe the hotel doesn't that even. You can email them and confirm your reservation and ask them what the cancellation policy is.

Did you provide a CC number when you booked?

When I've stayed in B&Bs, there has been a deposit probably 60% of the time or maybe a bit more. As long as you have a confirmation I wouldn't worry. But send a follow up e-mail if you are nervous about it.

Hi bunny

I can't speak for Italy as I've never been, but I have received confirmation on B&B's in Netherlands, Germany and France without needing a credit card. The rooms were always there for us.

I'm sure you'll be okay.

Have a wonderfu trip!

We're staying at a small inn and two B&Bs on our upcoming trip to France, and none required a deposit of any sort. One of them asked for a check (U.S.) in the amount of $25; just to make sure we really mean to show up, I assume.

Some don't need CC# or deposit, but without a deposit, it would be a good idea to call them if you were running behind schedule so they didn't think you weren't coming and rent your room out to someone else.

thanks all for the input. It's a tiny B and B, family run, so I think they on the honor code. Imagine that!

I will email two weeks before to confirm...

grazie!

Hi B,

I suggest emailing, faxing or calling 1 month ahead to reconfirm, and then 2 weeks ahead to tell them that you are on your way.

If they "lose" your reservation, 2 weeks doesn't give you much time to find an alternate.

Always bring the printed emails from them when you check into the B&B.
