NICOLA, ITALY
My husband and I have been invited to visit friends in Nicola, Italy. We aren't familiar with that location, and would love tips on "day trips" from there. We will have a car and will be visiting for nearly two weeks. Years ago we spent 2 nights in Florence, but other than that, we are new travelers to Italy. Thanks!

I have a highly detailed atlas of Italy and cannot find a town named Nicola on it. There are two mountains, Monte Nicola in Puglia, and Monte Nicola Bove on Sardinia but neither seem to have a town named Nicola near them. There are 19 towns with some variation of San Nicola in the name. Please give us some more to go on.

Google also comes up with a Nicola in the comune of Sarzana (- Val di Magra), Liguria (La Spezia).

Ellen - Sorry - I just realised that's the same one you found.

We've been to Nicola and the towns and villages in the vicinity.
We spent a week in nearby Arcola and made a number of visits to the Cinque Terre and Portovenere (by way of boat from Lerici). The fishing village of Tellaro is very nice. We went to Lucca and Portofino and environs from there. You'll be close to the autostrada.
Lots to do...

Here's a video of the Cinque Terre:

Also, here's a video of a day trip, which might bring you to the lovely town of Petrasanta, laboratory of Michelangelo, Brunello, and contemporary sculptures like Botero:
