Nice town between near vienna

We will be going from Prague to Ljubljana by train (via vienna). However, its a long journey and we are thinking of breaking it in 2 parts.

Day 1- Leave Prague and reach a nice place near vienna
Day 2- Go to Ljubljana from there

We will be coming back to Vienna from Ljubljana.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

near Vienna - you mean south of Vienna towards Ljubjana? If so Graz is a really nice old-looking town well on the way to Ljubjana - direct train line from there to Ljubjana I believe (not the route via Villach)

If going via Villach I also enjoyed Klagenfurt, nicely set on a lake.

Gee I thought it were you annhig posing the question and now I see annig!

Yes Baden is a lovely spa town but I think it is on the rail line to Verona and not Ljubjians?

Definitely Graz, a UNESCO heritage city.

(This must be some sort of record! It's the second subject where I'm agreeing with PQ! )

i can see the problem with the OP's name being quite similar to mine, Pal, but even so, do you think you might need an eye test?

I confess that i didn't look at what line Baden was on. sorry.
