Newleyweds Looking for Good Hostals in Spain and Barcelona

Hi. My husband and I are in our 20s and looking for good hostals in Barcelona and Madrid. We are going to Spain September 28-October 6.

We are looking for a private bathroom, a clean place, and a GREAT location. In Barcelona we would like something close to Las Ramblas and in Madrid something close to Plaza Major or Puera del Sol, we think.

Does anyone have any recommendations?
Thank you!

We stayed at the Continental Palacete in Barcelona a block from Las Ramblas for 130 Euros per night and this also included a 24 hour food and drink buffet. The hotel is lovely, the rooms small but nice and there are balconies off of the breakfast room for watching the people go by. Service is excellent. By factoring in the food and drink (very pricey in Barcelona) you may find this hotel as reasonable as a hostel.

Thanks for your advice Lily. I will look into that, but I am thinking we want something that doesn't include food because we like to go out and find places to eat. But again, thank you and take care!

You could get a little studio apartment for a lot less (about 80 euro a night) and save money making romantic breakfasts etc. this means private bathroom, your own lounge, and no maid to kick you out in the morning. have a look at the studios and apartments here:http://www.way2stay.com/Barcelona-apartments-en-52.html
youre going fairly low-season so you should get a pretty good price.

In Barcelona, I recommend Arthostal, 3 rooms uptstairs, a shared kitchen downstairs.

In Madrid, without a doubt, Hostal Adriano, where I have been staying for the last five years. They just inaugurated their third Hostal Adria Santa Ana, which according to Madridman.com's report is awesome and the best hostal in Madrid right now.

We are in Europe right now and soon to be at those places.

Good luck!

These have been recommended before for Barcelona. You can do a search for the reviews.

We are going to be there in early September, and in Madrid we are booked at Hostal Acapulco. It is 58 euros a night including tax for a double, right next to Puerto de Sol, and had excellent reviews on tripadvisor.com; check it out

We stayed at the Hostal Alhambra in Madrid: http://www.hostalalhambra.com/

It was clean, safe, had a private bathroom, a/c, and tv, and was right off the Puerta del Sol. Also reviewed on tripadvisor.com.

In Barcelona we've stayed at the Hostal Goya www.hostalgoya.com and can recommend it. Just a block NW of Placa Catalunya, in a quieter area. It was the top pick on Tripadvisor when we were looking for a place to stay in Barcelona.

The proprietors speak good English, and were quite nice... even after I flew off to Sevilla with my room key in my pocket. (I did send it back.)
