I also need a ourse>>

that should of course be purse. which in england means what you call a wallet, or bill-fold, but with at least one compartment for coins, preferably zipped.

I have a fav bag that won't stay on my shoulder. By chance
I found a velco-ed sleeve that fits over the shoulder strap
- no more slipping. Got it in a dollar store...who knew!

The Eagle Creek Bohemian I recommended above is probably the first bag I've ever had that DOESN'T slip off my shoulder.

Not sure if it's the strap fabric, the shape of the bag, or a combination, but I've been able to wear it on one shoulder with no slippage.

Having just returned form Italy, I will put my "2 cents" in..
I purchased a Travelsmith bag, a cross body, lots of zippers and pockets. Both a similar one for my Mom who was on the trip with us. NEVER AGAIN!! Bag was way too heavy with everything you want to carry. What I ended up doing was dumping all of the items I did not mind losing,(pickpockets) water, maps, guide books, etc, into a very lightweight backpack that my husband carried. For my next trip I have a Dooney & Bourke lightweight cross body bag that will hold my phone, compact camera my medicine, you get it. In addition, I always wear a money belt under my clothes.

I have a number of bags that work well for travel - some of them bought while actually traveling, too. Florence is good for stuff like that.

I did however just buy a Tumi Voyageur crossbody bag at the Tumi outlet near me. It goes by the name Capri although in the outlet it was called the Devon - maybe it was last year's model? Anyway, I am looking forward to using. Lightweight, cute, and seems like it will be very useful.

ALL the handbag threads have been pulled to the top by a spammer--this one is 6 years old.

What Lovestripletees describes is exactly why I don't like most bags specifically designed for "travel". Too many compartments, too many zippers, and too heavy.

This thread was originally posted in 2009' so I assume the responses are intended to help others who are following . Recently went to Italy with the PacSafe Metrosafe 200 and loved it. It looked sort of like a messenger bag, and my husband often carried it instead of a day bag.

drchris- Actually it looks like it was topped by an advertiser (see the removed post before the recent replies).

I have a couple of Sportsac mid size tubes that are great for travel. They weigh only a couple of ounces (parachute nylon?) and have multiple zip compartments for valuables and a larger center section that can expend to hold everything you need for the day including a sweater or tissue weight rain jacket. Have a very sturdy long strap so can be worn either on the shoulder or cross body.

Have been using them for at lest 15 years on MANY trips and they are jut wonderful - and come perfectly clean with a damp cloth.
