Gertie, unless things have changed very recently, you also don't have to pay for the "red" on transatlantic BA flights--drinks are free.

I can think of better reasons for choosing a carrier than getting 45¢ worth of wine.

Two checked bags are still allowed on flights to and from UK to the US. You can real all about this on BA's website. I always managed to hold our carryon's to 13 lbs, but it is a relief to know that a pound or two more will now be ok !!! I still can't see hauling all but the kitchen sink onboard tho.
