I was going to a conference in the south of France.

Our first trip was 4 days and was great. Then my wife flew home (small kids) and I trained to the conference.

We spent 3 days in Paris. Then took an overnight train to Bern (great jump off point). We spent the afternoon in Lucerne, the second day in Lauterbrunen and Murren and the third day near Montreux.

We took a sleeper train from Lausanne back to Paris and spent the last day there.

We still remember almost every detail and it was in 1979.

We had a picture of two old men who owned a very small store. Two years ago we found it again and the gril running it told us that her mother had bought the store for her from old men seven years earlier. It was a block from our hotel.

We've been to Paris and Switzerland several times as well as Italy about half dozen times.
I wrote down six cities on scraps of paper and picked three from a hat: London, Paris and Amsterdam. Luck they were all relatively close together. Had to do it that way since I was running out of planning time and had not been able to make a decision. It got easier and easier to trip plan after getting the first one under my belt.
