Need recommendations for Swiss B&Bs or small hotels - Bern, Luzern, Interlaken
I'm looking for recommedations for inexpensive (but reasonably nice) lodging in Interlaken, Bern and Lucerne for July. I've usually found that B&Bs, guest houses, or small 2-3 star hotels, etc are the kind of place that we like to stay but I'm having trouble finding many on line. Definitly want to stay under 150 CHF and preferably under 100 CHF. Any suggestions?

I'll provide my usual recommendation:
"We stayed at a plain-but-clean hotel called the Goldener Stern about 1 block behind the Jesuit Church on the other side of the river, and near the other wooden bridge. Our twin/dbl was about $90, including some breakfast. It is across from a small church whose bells ring a couple times an hour. My husband thought it bothered him, but now he says he'd go back to same hotel should we revisit.
We walked to the hotel from the train station - it's about 800 meters or 1/2 a mile. We easily walked to the old town area, up along the Museggwall, and all the way over to the Lion Monument. Lucerne is quite compact and good for walking."

We stayed there during October, left our window ajar for coolness and were not bothered unduly by traffic. Very plain rooms but clean and serviceable. They run a restaurant on the ground floor, where breakfast is served. Didn't eat dinner there but I'm sure it would be good. Breakfast was breads, juice, coffee...maybe cheeses and cereal.

BTW, TravelNut's recommended hotel is in Luzern...
In 2003, we stayed at the Belle Epoque in Bern. I suspect their rates are too high for your budget, but please check it out just in case. We loved this hotel, its location in the historical part of Bern and the wonderful staff. If you end up somewhere else, I recommend you stop for drinks or coffee in the hotel's bar decorated in the (surprise!) belle epoque style.

Hi isabel,
No personal recommendations, sorry, but two websites to help your research:
www.bnb.ch (for b&b, obviously)
www.rooms.ch (inexpensive hotel rooms)
These may be inconvenient, though, like on the outskirts of town or in a suburb.

In Interlaken I can recommend
www.sunnydays.ch
Breakfasts are great! Ask for a room at the top with a view.

We were in Lucern, Innerlaken, and Burn last summer. We spent a few hours walking around in Lucern but not over night. We spent 2 nights in Bern, and 6 in Innerlaken. The bnb.ch website is good. We fount Ryffel bnb near the west train station, about 1km walking from the station. It was under 100 switch franks per night and the owners had simple but good and filling breakfast around their table. It was hard only speaking amercan though French or German woot have hepled. Me an Billy wisht we hat stayed in Lucern overnight and only 1 nite in Burn instead. Lucern is very pretty town. We stayed at Marta house in Bern. It was o.k. but not great. We would try somewheres else next time. The Switcherland can be expencive so plan accordianly!

Wilderswil which is near Interlaken. It's normally a tour hotel, but when tours are not there it's open to the public. It's called CREDO. An old castle on a hill with big, clean rooms and baths. Excellent breakfasts are included in your rate and if you're going hiking, etc. for the day, they will pack a lunch for you. Very nice people and accomodating. You will need transportation as it's a bit out of the village on a hill.

Thanks for the replys.
Grimmy - the sunnydays B&B sounds great. I just emailed them.
Travelnut - I had already looked at the Goldener Stern based on your recommendation in another thread and it's at the top of my list. I notice on their web site you can save a bit with the non ensuite rooms. I'm always hesitant to do that but every time I have it's turned out fine. What do you think about that in the case of this hotel?
