Need recommendations for Carinthia and Styria

Will be traveling to Austria in June-July 2003. Although we've been there before, we love the country and would like to visit some new places that others have enjoyed in Carinthia and Styria. Preference would be a quiet country location, on or near a lake, in Carinthia, and a small village with character in Styria. Thanks for your inputs.

Can't be of much help regarding Styria. We loved Graz and you should do a day trip there. Bruck an der Mur (I think that's in Styria) looks cute in pictures and I love the name. In Carinthia we stayed Portschach on the Worther See at the Hotel Schloss Seefels. It's one of the less expensive Relais and Chateau hotels but still with their quality and charm. Entire surrounding area is loaded with charm. You'll love it.

Julie---thanks for the advice. We have been all around the Worthersee and we always stayed in Velden before. We were looking for a different area and a different lake. We've also stayed at Seeboden on the Millstattersee. There are so many lakes in Carinthia that we thought someone might have visited another one such as Faakersee, Ossiachersee, or Weissensee. We've also been to Bruck an der Mur but have not yet visited Graz. We have heard much about what a lovely city it is, so we will definitely include it. As for other parts of Styria, if anyone can recommend a charming village in the area northwest of Graz, I'd appreciate it very much.

Relatives who live on a hillside overlooking the Wothersee (pause for visual memory...), highly recommend the town of St. Veit an der Glan. Although it's not on a lake, it is close to Hochosterwitz, which I assume you are familiar with? Don't know a lot about it, other than passing through by train, but Semmering looked like it mught be a good place to stay if you like outdoorsy stuff. We also enjoyed Graz.

Since this our back up plan if we get rained out in the Austrian lakes region,I'll revive this 7 year old posting.

FACS - if you have a specific question(s), why don't you start a brand new thread yourself, rather than topping a 7 year old thread...
