Need internet café in Paris

We used to use the EasyInternet Café in the Latin Quarter, near the Cluny, but that closed so a friend suggested Access Academy on the rue Saint André des Artes. However, I believe that may have closed too. I liked it because it had quite a few American keyboards, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Any suggestions for a replacement in the area -- i.e., 6th or even 5th? Is anyone familiar with the Café Orbital? I know that it's near Jardin du Luxembourg, but not sure if it's still in operation.

Sandy p.s. I did a search on Fodors for internet cafés in Paris, but all I got was an error message.

Looks that way as their web address is not longer functioning. I was there in late October 2004.

This DOES become a problem, unless you are set up [and willing to pay] to access the internet from your room. Some hotels have a machine in the lobby, but it can be difficult to get access to it.

I couldn't backtrack and find the exact street but one night I walked past Access Academy in St. Germain and it was in full swing. It seemed really reasonable-something like 7 euro for 24 hours or something like that.

Another good one is XS Arena. They have a few branches; the one I used was on rue de la Huchette and it was 3 euro/hour. Very clean, lots of computers, and nice location.

I wonder what business name "Access Academy" is listed under on the pagesjaunes.fr site - it doesn't come up...
Anyway, you can find a lot of internet shops by entering "cybercafe" and "Paris" on www.pagesjaunes.fr

It seems like Access is working since francophile was just there.

Orbital is closed and has been for some time. I think the Web Bar over near the Marais is closed, also, at least was last summer. A lot of these are closing down, I don't think it's a very lucrative business or as in-demand anymore. I used to have a favorite in Montparnasse near where I stay but it was closed (supposedly for remodeling) recently, so I went to a nearby Cybercube and the owner said a lot of them were closing because they didn't charge enough to make costs (this was in response to my comment about how he charged more than some others, of course).

There are a couple Cybercubes in Paris, they have a website.

In November of 2003, there was one at the corner of St. Michel & Rue St. Severin. I didn't even think to ask if there were QWERTY keyboards.. I just muddled through.

In July, part of the Access Academy on Rue St. Andre de Arts was closed as they were expanding it big time -- and it was already big. So I couldn't imagine it being closed. It is quite possible they don't have a phone there -- why would they? So you wouldn't find them in "the yellow pages".
Of course if anyone knows the actual address you could look at the pictures on pagesjaunes and "see" them.

Stupidly I didn't make a note of the Access Academy's exact address. For sure that place was packed and it was early evening! I think it was the cheap rates. In fact, I wanted to have a turn at the net but I had to go to dinner. And what really intrigued me was the low cost; 7 euro something for 24 hours? My hotel charged 3 euro for 15 minutes!!

This is a good list for you, sandy!

We always used CyberCube off St Germain near St Andres des Artes.

Thank you all so much for the very helpful information on internet cafés! I'm glad to hear that Access Academy was still open recently. However, if it has since closed down, you've given me lots of other options. For anyone who would like the address of Access Academy, in case it is still open, it's 60-62 rue St. André des Arts. The cost when we were there last year was 3 Euros an hour, and it was open from 8 AM to 2 AM. It used to be listed under Access Academy on Les Pages Jaunes, so maybe it's just been a change in the listing.

Here is another internet cafe, located just across from Notre dame in the 5th:

Znet
18, rue de la Bucherie
http://www.zeidnet.com

There are about 12 computers, and 8 of them with QWERTY keyboards. Open every day from 10am-10pm, Sundays from noon to 8pm.

Can't remember the name, but there's a smallish one (with American keyboards) on Rue Monge, diagonally across from Hotel Monge. We used another off Rue D'ecoles, but I was lost everytime I passed it so can't tell you where it is. (I am always directionally challenged in any part of Europe.)
