need information and help ASAP

we are leaving on the last minute cruise in 2 days. I am trying to find hotel for one night in Piraeus for May6. I need names of the hotel which are close to the international port where Norvegian cruise line located and also not far from Metro to go toathens and bus from Airport. Looking for clean and inexpensive accomodation fo one night. We are arriving to the airport very late on the may 6, so want to spent one night in Piraeus and in the morning take metro to athens to see Akropolis and back to boaed ship. Can not locate hotels and find out where jewel located. Please, help
regards

No info on Piraeus myself, but I suspect there are those that do that are going to miss your thread-take note of how others ask questions and put your request in your title. Good luck!

You may want to consider staying in the Athens Plaka area rather than in Piraeus. There are a few hotels near the docks, but I wouldn't recommend them except as a last resort.

You plan to go into Athens to see the Acropolis anyway, so why not go straight from the airport into Athens, see the Acropolis the next morning, then take the metro or taxi to Piraeus to board ship. You should even be able to leave your luggage at the hotel while sightseeing.

Do a search on Athens hotels, and you will find many suggestions for inexpensive hotels.

The idea to stay in piraeus is to safe money on transportation. you could take a bus to the piraeus and in the morning keep luggage there and use metro to athens and back with a short, cheap ride to the ship. otherwise we need spent an expensive taxi ride to athens and again long ride to the port next morning, not practical. Just do not know which hotels , simple but clean close to the international port where norvegian jewel is. Thank you

Airport to hotel, then hotel to Piraeus = two trips. Airport to Piraeus, Piraeus to Athens, then Athens back to Piraeus = three trips.

However, if you still want Piraeus, I've stayed at Delfini Hotel which is very near the train/metro stop for Athens. Here is one website where you can make a booking: http://tinyurl.com/3atzck. This is far from the nicest hotel I've stayed in, so you have been warned.

To the best of my knowledge the bus from the airport to central Athens runs 24 hrs per day, and takes about the same length of time to get there as the bus to Piraeus. So it would make little difference whether you go from the airport to a hotel in Athens or a hotel in Piraeus. My point was, you would then have only one metro trip the next day rather than two. Your Athens hotel would look after your luggage while you explore the city.

We don't know BW park, but we've always liked the look of Dream. It's quite new, not on the actual harbour, but just a couple of streets back. The streets it's in (it's positioned between Filonos and Notara) may look a little underdeveloped, but don't be put off! We love this part of Piraeus, and it's in a good position for your needs, I think: nearer to the cruise boats than to the Metro, but it only takes about 15 minutes to walk to the Metro, along the harbour. You could take a taxi when you arrive, as you'll have luggage. I'd expect to pay about 5 euro from the Metro or bus terminus if you take the #93 from the airport, but with luggage it's more, especially if it's after midnight. It shouldn't be more than 10 euro, though. You'll probably need a meal when you arrive - I can recommend a really ethnic restaurant where we eat regularly, and it's open VERY late, which is the best time! It's in a little 'stoa' (I hesitate to call it a street!) If you walk along Filonos towards central Piraeus (turn left if your exit is on Filonos)and look down the little alleys on your left towards the harbour, you'll see a primitive barbecue in the street parallel to Filonos. The restaurant has tables outside in the alley; it's small, and there isn't a massive choice, but they do fantastic grilled meat and fish, with masses of FRESH french fries. Huge portions, too! Oh, and the bread is lovely - grilled on the barbecue, sprinkled with herbs. The barrel wine comes in the metal jugs you'll see all over Greece. Or, if you just want a snack, try a drink (ouzo?) with a plate of mezethes: lots of little titbits! The restaurant is called 'Synantisi' (Seen-AN-dee-see). It's small and simple, but the food is delicious, and the people are very kind and friendly. It's about 2 blocks from the Dream, just before a big church which backs onto Filonos. If you come to this you need to walk back a few yards. If you're walking to the Metro the next morning, you'll pass the big cathedral, which is one of the most beautiful churches I've seen in Greece. Worth popping into - the frescoes are spectacular. I didn't chip in before, as I thought Heimdall's suggestion was good, although I don't agree with him about Piraeus! I think staying here could be a very good start to your holiday - and someone may have even better information about BW park. Have a great time!

note to LJ: some people here simply can't learn - - see http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34407263 - - it's no longer a function of being a newbie.

This person asks questions with headers like this, repeatedly, over a stretch of years.

The metro to and from Piraeus is sooooooooo easy, fast and safe along with being very inexpensive. I would strongly recommend using the metro (all signs are in English and Greek) wherever you go in Athens-timewise too.

baikal - I'm SO sorry! I got the bus number from Athens Airport to Piraeus wrong - it should be #96! But all the buses are very clearly marked, if you decide to go that way.
