I have already posted this message once, but somehow it never showed up. So here I go again...I would like hotel recommendations for February 2006 for Venice, Florence, and Rome. I'll be traveling with my husband, by train to/from these cities, so I'd prefer hotels convenient to the train station as well as the historical center. My budget is flexible, but I would prefer to keep it around $150.00 US per night if possible. I would also like any suggestions for GREAT local places to eat in the aforementioned cities. THanks in advance for all your kind help. I posted for the first time recently onthis forum, and was amazed at the helpfulness of the people here.

We stayed at the Hotel Miami in Rome a couple of years ago - it might suit you. It's a 3 star on via Nazionale, about a 15 minute walk from the Termini. Rooms are clean but small, staff are friendly and speak English. www.hotelmiami.com

Here is another vote for the Hotel Miami. We had our children with us, and we were still close enough to walk everywhere. We would definitley stay there again since the staff were wonderful and our room was quite nice.

It might be a bit above $150, but I can't say enough nice things about Hotel Villa Belvedere in Florence--www.villa-belvedere.com. For GREAT food go to La Giostra--www.ristorantelagiostra.it.

I loved Hotel Flora in Venice, but I think it's much higher pricewise. We stayed at a lovely place on Lido last May in that price range called Villa Stella--only a 15 minute vaperreto ride from St. Marks.

For Rome, Hotel Teatro di Pompeo is in your price area. It is near Campo di Fiori, Piazza Navona. Restaurant nearby, near Pantheon, is Pietro's recommended by the hotel's concierge, Tonino. A great eatery.

Thanks everyone, who helped me through this thread and through the original thread...I did rearrange my itinerary a bit...I WILL be going to Rome again on this trip, though I originally thought not. I am going to pare down the cities to Venice, Florence, Rome, with some day trips to be decided upon later. My real needs are for recommendations for hotels in Venice and Florence...I've been to Rome several times, but I'm always open to new suggestions for hotels and restaurants in Rome as well. Thanks once again for any help you can give. I also posted a story about my last trip to Rome where my husband and my father in law were both pickpocketed, partly through their own stupidity, if anyone cares to read it.

Pensione La Calcina is a deservedly popular 3-star in the Dosoduro district of Venice. It is very easy to get to from the train station by vaporetto. Non-view rooms I believe are in your price range especially in the winter.

Not knowing your dates in February, I'll just caution beware if you are traveling during 'carnival' that will make hotel reservations much harder if not impossible to come by.

I'll be traveling during the early part of February, so Carnivale should not be a problem...it starts February 17 according to the internet information I have seen. I'll be long gone by then. Thanks so much for your recommendation!
