Hotel Italia - Rome

I'll be in Rome next week, and I have reservations at Hotel Italia located at Via Venezia 18-00184 Roma, and I was wondering if anyone has stayed there, and would like to comment.

Thanks.

if you type the name of the hotel into the search box at the top of the page and then select Italy you will pull up lots of threads with information on this hotel. I think this is a Rick Steves recommended hotel.

Thank you. I did find a few posts, but if anyone has more recent information, that would be great!

If you select hotels at the top of the Fodors page and then scroll down to Rome and find Italia there will be reviews. One is as recent as 12/2003 and includes the persons email address. Trip advisor website will probably have some reviews also.

We stayed there for 5 nights in April, 2002. It was a good location, nice people, very good breakfast for Italy, rooms were clean w/modern baths.

We stayed at the Hotel Italia in September 2002. I found nothing to fault in this hotel, especially considering the reasonable rate. The steet on which it is situated is quiet, almost like an alley. You won't find great views or fabulous ambience here, but I think you'll find quiet, clean, pleasantly appointed rooms, a nice breakfast setup, helpful reception desk, and a great location.

It's not far from the train station, but the neighborhood is just fine. (If you cab from the train station, don't accept a deal for more than 10 euros. This was one of the first taxi rip offs we experienced in Italy, 20 euros for a 10 euro ride. Grrr!)

I think you'll be well satisfied, and baffled as I am as to why any budget traveler would stay any place else in Rome.

We also stayed there in 2002 and it was a good experience. As previous posters have mentioned it is quiet, the staff friendly and the best breakfast buffet we had in Italy.
We mentioned Rick Steves when making reservations and they gave us a 10% discount.
