Need Help with Train Schedule from Paris to Amboise Please
I am looking for some help with the train schedule from Paris to Amboise on April 28th. We will be staying near the Louvre and it seems that Gare d'Austerlitz would be our best bet for leaving.
Also, now that I am looking on the SNCF website again I think it is telling me that I can not leave Amboise on the 29th any later than 6pm for Paris. Originally I found a train at 8pm. So now I am confused.
Can anyone tell me if the Austerlitz train would be the best to Amboise from a Louvre location? And also, can you tell if there is a train around 8pm on 4/29?
As always, I am indebted.

Where will you stay/what is your planned method of transportation in Amboise? You will arrive in the dark. I took the train from Gare d'Austerlitz to Amboise last summer-the station there is very small and has very limited services (no bathroom, either!)...taxis are not waiting and must be phoned for in advance.

Hi D,
The train to Amboise leaves from Gare Austerlitz.
There is a direct train from Amboise to Paris at 19:01. The 20:03 and 20:24 require a change at St-Pierre-des-Corps.
See www.bahn.de

Thank you Ira. That is what I was hoping.
If you are still out there, one more question.
Would you buy the tickets ahead of time? I generally buy them at the station but was unsure in this case since I have not done this in France (only Italy).

If you are absolutely sure of the date and time you want, might as well buy them ahead of time, especially as there are few choices at that time of night. You do get a discount if you buy a PREM in advance on SNCF, which you can do right now.
I did not see any 20:03 train from Amboise, I think Ira was seeing the 19:03 train. I only saw two -- the 20:24 (which requires a change at St Pierre) and one at 21:05 which is direct. Both are about the same price if you compare the PREM to the normal fare for the 21:05 train (the only fare available). Both get back into Paris about the same time, also, but the direct one goes to Austerlitz and the other with the change goes to Montparnasse (as it is a TGV).
If I were you, I'd just take the regular train to Austerlitz and not worry about buying ahead or changing trains. They arrive about the same time, that one shouldn't be as crowded (not sure if the other would be crowded or not, probably not on a weeknight, but they can be at other times), and you wouldn't need to buy a ticket in advance. Also, it actually leaves about a half hour later, as the other has about a 40 minute layover in St Pierre des Corps. Austerlitz is closer to the Louvre, also.

The normal fare is 26.50€ one way -- and that is the only fare I found checking various dates in February. No Prem's or any other discounts.
So you might as well just walk into the station on the day you decide to leave and buy your ticket then.
