Need help with train from Salerno to Tropea
We will be traveling by train from Salerno to Tropea on 9/30. Google says there is 1 direct train/day. However, when I search Trenitalia, Italo, Trainline, & Itataliarail I only see trains with 1 or 2 stops. Any suggestions? 1 stop is preferable vs 2, but direct would be even better!

We will be in Calabria later this year, so am getting familiar with train connections. I don't believe there is a direct train between Tropea and Salerno, you will need to make one change at Lamezia Terme. From Lamezia, Italo and Trenitalia both have direct trains to Salerno.

If you don't change the day of travel, Google will show the trains running today and today there is a direct train from Salerno to Tropea, the IC nr. 551 departing to Tropea at 12:22.
Unfortunately it does not run on September 30.
PS Since you are going to use The Railway system, you should be aware that train stops and train transfers are 2 different things. A train can be direct even if it makes many intermediate stops.
An intermediate stop is not a problem to locals.

trust Trenitalia and Italotreno when looking up the schedules, not re-sellers like Trainline and ItaliaRail who show only the trains they can sell tickets for.

As shown on the Departures board relative to Salerno and published on RFI.it that 12:22 IC train stops in Tropea only during the season.
Unless somebody is going to pay Trenitalia for the inconvenience when the demand for that stop drops to zero, it is not "very possible that it will be made available in another month". On the contrary it's quite improbable since Calabria is the poorest Italian Region and changing the summer schedules in summer is a nightmare for railway companies.
Everything can happen, but I Wouldn't hold my breath.

I’m looking at Trenitalia’s website & see the train I want. 1 change which I’m ok with. Now, the question is the ticking classes & choices! I’ve gone to the website, but don’t clearly see a description of the difference.

Those are fares with different T&Cs, not classes. "The cheaper a fare is, the more restricted the ticket is" as Master Yoda used to say.
Can you see those small gray " i "next to the fare names (rows) and the different classes (columns)? When one need more info on the internet, clicking on an " i " is often useful. Doing it on the English version of Trenitalia leads to easier results.

Just to add: did this trip about a month ago. Actually Naples/Paestum/Maratea/Tropea. Stopped over at all those places. Slow train which stopped everywhere, changed at Paola and Lamezia. From Tropea backtracked to Lamezia then to Catanzaro and Taranto. What a great trip!!

Gertie, it all sounds lovely! I got our train tickets today & am getting excited. Next leg of the trip will be from Tropea to Taormina. I’m going to submit a new thread for info on train travel from Tropea to Taormina.
