Is the ferry dock in salerno close to the salerno train station (trenitalia

We need to get from positano to tropea. i checked the bus schedule and i dont think we'll make it because of the transfer in amalfi. i think taking the ferry from positano to salerno is a better way. however, is the ferry station in salerno close to the salerno train station (trenitalia)?

Maybe someone can fine tune this reply, but I seem to remember that the ferry dock was within easy walking distance of the station, especially if you aren't toting a lot of luggage. The Salerno station is small, very easily managed, and definitely within sight of the water.

We took the boat from Amalfi to Salerno and had a train to catch going to Rome. We knew it was a little tight, but figured we could make it. Well, the boat in Amalfi sat there for 10 or 12 minutes after departing time -- thanks to a buddy of the captain who was standing on the dock talking and talking. Then when we got to Salerno, there was another boat where we were supposed to dock so we got delayed another 5 or 10 minutes. When we finally docked we took off following another couple who seemed to know where they were going. We were all rolling our luggage and going faster and faster. The distance was actually the rather long length of the docks and we had arrived out at the end. Once we got off the dock it was about two blocks to the station. We arrived about a minute or so after the train was to depart, but fortunately the train was delayed about 20 minutes, so we made out OK.
Normally, if you aren't running to catch the train, I'd think about 10 to a maximum of 15 minutes or so would get you there walking.

Hi Italy,

The ferry dock is about 2 blocks SE of the train station.

Go to www.viamichelin.com and enter
Piazza Giuseppe Mazzini, Salerno, Italy.

Allow 6 minutes to walk from the Salerno train station to the dock off of Piazza della Concordia. I estimate the distance to be at least 500 yards. Boats moor at the end of the long pier, which accounts for much of the distance. Once you reach terra firma, it's only about two blocks to the station. By contrast, the SITA bus departs from directly outside the station.

IF the ferry goes to the Piazza della Concordia dock, yes, you go down the length of the dock and 2 blocks to the train station. IF the ferry goes to the other dock, it's further away, and you might opt for a cab.

so how about the other way around--I'll be coming to Salerno by train from Rome to get to town of Amalfi--work taking ferry rather than bus (mid October)?
Which dock? The close one?

Hi dee,

Check the ferry schedules. They might have limited service in mid-Oct.

Also the ferries are subject to weather conditions.
