Need help dialing a UK cell phone located in US (from US number)
Family member is visiting US from UK. His cell phone number starts with a 0 plus 10 digits. He can phone a US number with no problems dialing just 1 area code and number, but I can't call his cell phone.
I've tried what I think is every possibility;
dropping the 0, changing 0 to 1, dialing 011 44 before the number (without the 0). Nothing works. What am I doing wrong? In case it matters, his service at home is Orange and his service here seems to switch between T mobile and Cingular. I've posted this on the US board but thought maybe someone here might know better. TIA.

Sheila, normally whenever we dial a European number from the US we first have to dial 011 which connects with international calling, then we dial the country code, etc. Just dialing a 0 then the number doesn't get us "out of the US".

I have Orange service on my mobile.
Assuming you are calling from the US, 011 44 then his 10 digit mobile number (dropping the 0) is correct.
I receive calls in the US from the US this way.
You could also post your query on the orange.uk website
