How to call a mobile phone in UK from USA
I need to call a mobile phone in the UK from USA. Do I dial 011 44 and then the mobile phone number (dropping the 0)? I will be calling from a land phone.
I call the UK often but never have rang a mobile phone.
Thanks for any help anyone can input.
Sandy

You have it correct...
Say the UK mobile number is listed as 07624531591 (it's a totallhy fictiteous number before anhybody gets any ideas)...if calling from the USA you would dial
011 44 7624531592....011 being the international call prefix, 44 the country code for the UK and the rest the number dropping the lead 0.
Be aware that unlike the USA, in most European countries, mobile numbers always start with a special prefix and not an area or city code...thus in the UK all mobile phones start with a 7. In the USA and Canada, mobile or cell phones as they are called here simply have the exact same set up as a landline...from the number alone you cannot tell if it is a cell phone number, a landline number, a fax number, a pager number or whatever. Thus the number 917 555 1212 could be any of the above; one of the reasons that calls to cell phones in the USA are charged exactly the same as calls to landlines.
Also if you are calling the UK mobile number from elsewhere in Europe, substitute 00 for 011 and you would dial 0044 and then as above. Or from a mobile phone in Europe you would lead with the "+" sign which is the universal gsm code for an international call (+44...). Calling from the UK mobile to the USA, you would dial +1917 555 1212.
Hope that helps.

What if you are using your US-based mobile phone in the UK and you want to dial a number IN the UK?
Since my mobile works in Europe and automatically registers on the local network do I simply dial the leading 0 plus the number?

Dukey...
You can do it one of two ways...since you are registered on a local UK network you could dial just as if you are a local sim customer that is dial the number with the lead 0 (07624531591)...the call will go through and you will pay an arm and a leg (well maybe just a leg)....
You can also dial it as an international call using the "+" key noted above (+44 7624531591)...the call goes through either way and you pay the same arm and a leg either way.
