Need Apartment in Rome

Haven't been to Rome in over 10 years and I am shocked by hotel rates. I need an apartment for two for 4 days not necessarily in the center of the city. Arriving October 14th. My budget 100 - 140 EUR. Let me know if you have rented an apartment in Rome and what was your experience like.

Look at www.rome-accom.com. They have a few properties in your price range. With only a couple weeks to go, however, you might not get lucky.

I haven't rented from them but heard about them through a thread on this board. The poster was very happy with an appartment he/she had rented near the Spanish Steps. You might be able to find the thread by searching for "Spanish Steps apartment."

Check out realrome.com. My sister and I rented from them this past May, 96 EURO a night for a studio off Campo dei Fiori. Not fancy, and you pay the balance in cash on arrival. But if you can deal with those issues, then you've got yourself a steal.

Also take a look at the apartment reviews on slowtrav.com.

Enjoy Rome! I hope it's better than you remember.

I realize I didn't let you know what our "experience was like." In a word, great! I don't mind apartments at all, mainly because I rarely use the services of a concierge and automatically make my bed when I wake up anyway.

I also like having a fridge filled with goodies and a cupboard with wine and wine glasses.

realrome was very easy to deal with, run, I believe, by some Brits. We had some problems with the keys--sticky, sticky, but we always managed to get them to work.

Mauro from undergound viaggi was also easy to deal with. He'll pick you up at the airport gratis and provide you with a cell phone for your stay. We loved one of his restaurant recommendations: Il Ciak in Trastevere.

Several years ago I also stayed in an apartment with friends in Trastevere, but I didn't have anything to do with the planning/arranging of that (just along for the ride), so I can't really recommend.

In short, I feel that if you're not a committed hotel person, renting an apartment in Rome is a win-win situation.

But please do check out slowtrav.com. Lots of tips and rec's there.
