oh, I also think you don't understand that the metro or bus only costs about 1.7 euro per ticket in Paris (and you could buy a carnet, a pack of 10 for only 13.30 euro and share it with your spouse).
So that cost isn't going to make up for the difference in hotel costs between staying in expensive areas near the Seine and farther out.
