Uscun, thank you for your info. I actually received a reply from Happy House (Jiri) this afternoon. She recommended a room with 3 beds for about 4500Czk for 5 nights, which came out to about $192.xx very reasonable I thought. But I emailed her back and asked her if she has a smaller place, because this one was like 500 sq ft (if I converted it correctly) because I am going alone and won't need 3 beds, I wouldn't mind the 2 beds, my friend might be joining me for a couple of nights in Prague. What size of apt did you get, and how much was it for? Was it pretty centrally located? I'd prefer to be near the city center if I can.

Sorry to hi-jack BUT:
Uscun: How are your other plans going? I was quite interested in your trip prep....Prague and Hungary, etc.
Did you see the neat article in the April national geographic traveler about Budapest -- light on details but it really captured the spirit of the place, IMO.

h2babe, good you heard back. i actually went a flat w/ id listing 4417 (they have a search field on the page for the id). it costs 1800CZK/night and we are two people. it's in new town on reznicka street...10 minutes max walk to old town. the other place i was looking at was apt id 1707...it was for 2700CZK/night. petr actually recommended going w/ the cheaper place. he said being a little away from old town was preferable as it's quieter and don't have as many tourist traps to eat at.

hi tedgale,
actually we planned, planned, and then replanned the trip to the point where my friend and i are both happy. we decided to split our time between prague (3), vienna (3), florence (4), and venice (3) in the end. i compromised and had to leave out budapest, which is a bummer as we're so close (maybe a day trip if vienna isn't our thing). but you can't see it all in one trip. and i really want to see krakow eventually, so i'm hoping one day to go back to see krakow, more of czech, and budapest.
but i'll have to find the article you're talking about though.
othewise, i have booked accom for florence, prague, and venice...still looking for something reasonable in vienna.

Ucsun: I can't hi-jack this thread again, more than this once -- maybe you can post separately.
My feeling is: what a stretched out trip. Are you flying Vienna-Venice, perhaps?
And Budapest is only 2h40 from Vienna.
My inclination would be not to go to Florence, though I know it well and really like it, having lived there briefly, long ago. Anyway we can continue on another thread, if you choose.

Uscun ... Jiri=George... hahah, I am such a dork!! =))I guess I need to remember that this is an apt, so they would more likely to have a place with at least 2-3 beds. I told Jiri that I wanted the smallest place they have, but *he* still offered me # 2308 if I am not mistaken, and it's pretty reasonable, about 800czk/night but it has 3 beds. I still need to do some more research on the location to make sure that it's not too far out from town.

Uscun, when is your trip? I checked out the 2 apts that they recommended to you, and they looked pretty nice. Let me know when you come back whether it's ok/nok. I will be in Prague July 5-11. I might just go ahead with the 800 czk/night, that comes out to about $192 for 5 days, a great deal I think.

h2babe, maybe start a thread on this as i think we've completely hi-jacked this one. but i'm going before you in may. so i'll definitely be able to tell you how it was. the only thing is that prague apparently gets pretty packed in the summer months, so you may need to pull the trigger before then.
also i looked up that flat id and didn't see anything for it. where's the location?

We stayed in a pension in Prague last June, called the U Lilie, that I wouldn't highly recommend except it's clean and a great location right near the Bridge (although a crowded spot with tourists).
But I did collect brochures from three hotels I wanted to remember in case we returned: The Hotel Neruda, the Hotel U krale Karla, and the Grand Hotel Bohemia.
The Neruda is on the hill going up to Prague Castle. It has a nice cafe on its rooftop, for views of the city below. Its brochure calls it four-star, an historical building reconstructed. Lobby had a nice, contemporary feel, clean and well-done. Rack rate is 220 EUR in high season for a double. It's website is www.hotelneruda.cz
The U krale Karla is in a gothic building, rebuilt in 1639, renovated in 1993. It had more an old Prague feeling to it, old elegance. In Lesser Town, also near the Castle, only 16 double rooms and 3 suites, high season rates for double room deluxe is 6900CZK. Website: www.romantichotels.cz
The Grand Hotel Bohemia is a five-star, in Old Town next to the Powder Tower (also a good location), 78 rooms and suites. It's a classic, old, elegant-looking place that looked charming, too. (No rate sheet in their brochure.) Website: www.grandhotelbohemia.cz
Someone mentioned a negative review of the Pension Dientzenhofer, but I think they are mistaken. I've only seen great reviews of it on this board. Do a search for it and see.
Prague is wonderful. Too bad you only have two nights!
