Need a good hotel rec for Geneva pls

I am planning a short trip to Geneva for the Fetes de Geneve (we live in France) for one night, August 7. The last time we visited Geneva we stayed in the heart of downtown...bad move. So this time we want to find something nice on the outskirts (but not too far out, kwim?) that is nice, but reasonably priced. With the exchange rate, that is tough. We prefer not to exceed $120 USD.

Thanks!

I am also planning a trip to Geneva in August. Where did you stay, and what didn't you like about it?

Trythe Hotel Eden a 3* not far from downtown and some rooms have balconies overlooking the lake. And why not downtown such as at the Warwick near the train station?

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll check them out.

Why not downtown? Well, first of all, we take our dogs with us for short trips, and in the heart of downtown, there are no ideal dog-walking areas. Secondly, when we returned from our dinner after dark (at 9:00ish), we had to walk through a crowd of about 15 "undesirables" lingering right outside our hotel. Then, we had to listen to them partying/fighting/etc. until around 4am. With a 2-year-old in tow, not exactly my idea of fun.

That was at the Hotel Cristal.

Well, the Eden and Warwick are both out of our price range. Any more suggestions for something nice (doesn't need to be fancy at all; just clean) on the outskirts of town?

Thanks!

While you're waiting for a personal suggestion, Wesch, you might like to take a look at bnb.ch the Swiss bed&breakfast association. There are quite a few in the Geneve area (click on the Lac Leman portion of the search map.) J.
