Diane - I'm not sure about this, - Vincenzo's probably the best person to answer if he sees this.

It's only a high-season service, so I think it would stop running sometime in September, - possibly even late August.

Steve

The hydrofoil from Naples Mergellina to Positano might stop around October 15, possibly earlier. You should check with your hotel.

How long does the hydrofoil from Positano to Naples take?. We are going to be in Positano in August (4 days) and then will be spending a couple of days in Rome, which is the best option: the hydrofoil directly to Naples or take the bus to Sorrento and then the train to Naples?. Thanks!

According to the Positano Web Site, the hydrofoil from Positano to Naples takes 45 minutes. The FASTEST way to go from Positano to Rome is to take this hydrofoil to Naples Mergellina, walk 500 yards to the Mergellina Train Station, and take a direct IC train from Mergellina to Roma Termini. You should bypass Sorrento entirely. However, you do need to look carefully at the train schedules: www.trenitalia.com
and select a train which STOPS at the Mergellina Station. Many trains go direct from Naples Central Station, without stopping at Mergellina.

We're visiting Positano next week, but our train from Rome doesn't stop at Mergellina. Please can someone tell me how we get from Naples Centrale to Mergellina? Thankyou.

Sue: From Naples Central, go downstairs and buy a 77 cent ticket for the subway and take it four or five stops to Mergellina. Then go up the stairs onto the street and turn right to the docks. I just came from Positano on Sunday, and the times listed by Steve James are not true. I contacted Vicenza on June 30, but the times must have changed on the first. We got there on July 8 from Venice, and it left at 4:30. That was the last one for the day. We rode the train to Mergellina thinking to walk the little distance to dock, buy a ticket, and make the 4:15. It did not turn out that way. We got to the dock at 3:30, and the signs all said "Positano", but no one would sell us a ticket. We ended up very far from the Mergellina station near a castle that you will see to the right from the dock, before we could get a ticket. We just barely made the hydrofoil. When you arrive in Naples Central, go straight to a taxi, and let him go to each ticket counter and find out if they sell tickets. It would be a very far walk to the place where we finally got the ticket. Don't linger in the Naples station, and don't accept help from anyone who offers it to you. Everyone wearing a blue shirt does not work for the railroad, in spite of what they may tell you. Fortunately, we were forewarned in Venice by another couple. We were still approached by three different people whom we saw all over the station when we were returning. Naples was the only the place we saw gypsies, and they were very persistent at the hydrofoil ticket booths. Little girls reached their hands in front of ours at the window to try to take the change. All in all the Naples train station and docks were a very unpleasant experience!

I am actually wanting to get some help. Is there hydrofoil scheduled in september taking me from Naples to Positano directly as taking taxi directly is very much expensive. And how much?

Yes, there are direct hydrofoils from Naples to Positano in September. But you need to verify whether they leave from the Mergellina Dock or Molo Beverello, as I've read contradictory information. Your hotel should know.
