Let me clarify here. Are you asking if you can buy one integrated ticket for the S-Bahn from the airport to the train station to Innsbruck.

No.
Two entirely separate transit systems.
However, a Eurail pass is valid on the transit system.

Can you buy an S-Bahn ticket with a credit card? I don't know. I never tried; always paid cash.

Can you buy a train ticket at the Hauptbahnhof with a credit card? Yes.
I have done it with Visa.
I don't know about any others.

You say you won't have currency. I sure hope you have an ATM card with you. All you need to do is use it to get some cash in euro at the airport.

Let me modify my information.
You may well be able to buy your whole ticket to Innsbruck at the airport station. I think there will be two separate pieces of paper for a ticket, but that is somewhat immaterial if you can get what you need with one stop shopping.

I looked at the German national rail website, and the S=Bahn and Die Bahn schedules are fully integrated. The routing on the S-Bahn from the airport to Innsbruck is actually to the Munich East station, which saves you a few minutes travel time to the main station and back again to Munich east. It will also make a little difference in the cost of the tickets because you pay by distance.

One reason I think you can buy all your tickets at one place is because, depending on the connection, you will not have time to buy anything at Munich East unless there is a vendor standing on the platform. You have something like 4 minutes connect time for some of the trains.

So I will back away from my previous statement. I am sure some Munich dweller will come to our rescue.

I think I could well be under informed.

You might want to look at the German rail website and see just when the trains are. The imponderable is the length of time it takes to get your suitcase back and get to the platform.

I have had good experience in Munich with the efficiency of baggage handling.

But get some euro notes. You will need the same currency in Innsbruck for odds and ends.

Hi johnb,

bob brown's second post is correct: you can buy one train ticket from Munich airport to Innsbruck. A few years ago, I landed at Munich airport and bought one ticket for transport to Salzburg -- no prob.

You can also use a credit card. But, as bob brown notes, it's always good to have some cash for taxis, tips, or snacks (buying coffee on the train . . ). If you have some layover time at your US departure airport, there's usually a currency changer near the international gates. I usually get $30 = $50 changed there just for arrival incidentals; it's a small enough amount so the bad exchange rate doesn't hurt so much.

Let me know if I can help further.

If you take the S Bahn, it is in the direction of Nannhofen or Maisach.
(both stops on the same line way out in the northwest of greater Munich.)

This url will bring up the Deutsche Bahn schedule page with English captions.
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/que...quest=yes&

This did not divide out right. Thereis no space after the ? "?ld= ..."

As I recall, you need to make sure you are going in the right direction because the routes between the airport and town have two different destinations.

The connections that require 2 hours and 15 minutes to get to Innsbruck leave the Airport starting 7:05 and every 2 hours thereafter until 19:05.
There are later connections and other connections interspersed with the others during the day, but they take much longer.

The longer times require a second change along the way, such as Kufstein.
All of them require a change at Munich
East from S bahn to the regular train.

Good luck on this. Those trains are usually very punctual.
