My Autumn Provence Quandry
I almost have our autumn France trip all planned, except for two nights. After four nights in Burgundy, we'll spend three nights in the Luberon (Bonnieux). Here is our quandry.
I have two nights free before we head off to Pezanas for five nights to explore Languedoc, Cathar Country, etc. I've stayed in Arles before, so was planning on Saint-Remy-de-Provence, but it looks like the places I want to stay are all booked (except Hotel Gounod, which only has the smallest room available). I like to stay near enough own to walk to restaurants (DUIs on a vacation can be such a hassle)
I was contemplating Nimes as a base, but it's not really talking to me. What, if any, are your Nimes' experiences, or are there other nearby towns that would serve as a good base, or perhaps a place near Saint-Remy within walking distance of town?
I believe I have used all my allotted questions. Thanks for your help.

A hearty second to Stu's recommendation of Uzes; just love that little town! The Hostellerie Provencale is a small hotel a minute's walk from lots of great restaurants in the main square, La Place Aux Herbes. We rented a house right next door to the Hostellerie twice. And the Hostellerie has its own lovely restaurant, also.
If I can further sell you on Uzes, don't hesitate to ask questions!

Just had to chime in with a lunch recommendation near Uzes at Le Tracteur in Argilliers (less than a 10 min drive away). We had the BEST lunch of our trip to France (which is saying something!) after visiting the P du G:

We also enjoyed visiting Uzes - good market too.

Tom--if any in your group enjoys ceramics, I suggest you visit the pottery oriented town of St Quentin le Poterie which is just 4 km north of Uzes. There are numerous studios and ateliers located in the town as well as its approaches.
We've visited many times and will stay in Uzes for the first time this May and expect to explore the aqueduct's source as well as other nearby villages. BTW-love the look of Le Tracteur.
Cheers

Tom-in case your still looking-
Two places I have stayed in St Remy, both walking distance to town and both I highly recommended.
Hotel Sous les Figuiers
www.hotelsouslesfiguiers.com
The woman who owns this place is wonderful
And Les Mas des Tourtelles
A BnB within 5 min walk from town
Was owned by an English couple who were selling so not sure if they sold. But they were equally as nice and accommodating as the Hotel.

Loved both places.
Can't wait to read about ur next adventure

We purchased 6 large dinner plates, and about 10 small amuse bouche plates here:

It is not in the center of town - but on the outskirts.

And if you're really interested in pottery (?), the relatively near-by village of Lussan is known for its beautiful ceramic guinea hens. I love my blue and white pintade. There is a shop in Uzes that sells them from this manufacturer, also.
