My 50th birthday is in February - where should I go?
I will be celebrating my 50th birthday in February. My husband told me to pick a trip. I love Europe but isn't it too cold to go there in February? I have been to Ireland, Paris, London, Rome, Florence, Venice and Tuscany.
I would definitely go back to Paris and Italy. Any other destinations and/or resorts that you can recommend would be greatly appreciated.

If you have to ask, probably not of interest -- it's Venice during Carnival season, just like Brazil. They do it up there, apparently.
If it were me, and money were no object -- I'd go somewhere in the Caribbean in February, frankly, not Europe. If I were forced to go to Europe in February, I'd go to Spain.

We often go to London or Paris in Feb. After hot summers in FL , I relish the cold temps. Thogh this year in March in London all we wore were sweaters for most of the 9 dys we were there.
Go wheere there is something you want to see or do, and don't worry about the weather.

I've taken several trips to Europe in February during school vacation week and while it can be cold, I decided a few years ago that I prefer cold Europe to warm beaches. Beaches I can do in the summer at home.
It isn't as cold in Paris as it is in Massachusetts, and the streets don't get all icy and slushy so you don't need to wear boots. In Rome and in Barcelona I felt warm while the locals were bundled up in coats and scarves. Everything is relative.

Go to Venice for Carnivale...it is wonderful...I spent this year's big birthday there and loved it. Some friends came along and had a ball and actually went to one too. Did costumes, masks, parades etc. The city is very crowded but the costumes, parties, atmosphere is fantastic. We were very lucky that it was late Feb and the weather was very mild for that time of year...it's early Feb. this year so that might make a difference. We started in Rome and worked our way up to Venice for the last weekend of Carnivale. I'd do it again in a New York minute.

Safari in East Africa. Always my first choice, but you'd have a lot of trouble booking this late.
So...Rome always runs a close second with me. I've been in February and it was crisp and sunny, mostly sweaters-only weather, sometimes warmer. Haven't been to Spain since I was a child, but that's another possibility.

Leely - my idea too a Tanzanian safari. Perfect.
However for Europe - it is not as cold as New England or the Mid-west gets in winter. Or at least it hasn't been - we may get a winter next time who knows. But even then Northern Europe and southern Europe have very different winters. Though it can get very cold in Italy too.
If it is cold it is often a dry clear cold, with sun. Wonderful. The counrtyside is lovely then.
Carnival is celebrated throughout Catholic Europe, but the Venice Carnival is the best known. Next year it is from Friday 25 Jan to Tuesday February 5th in Venice. Elsewhere it is 2nd to 5th February.
Europe is less crowded in February, you can appreciate museums more because of that, and they are heated and dry.
But I'd go for Tanzania
