The reason you got this type of response is because this exact same question was covered extensively within the past 24 hours. If you would have bothered to look you would have found your answer. How can you expect people to take the time to help you out if you are not willing to spend any of your own time looking for an answer?

Schoenbrunn palace and the topiary behind the palace is pretty cool in the summer.

St Stephens Cathedral supports a lot of bird poop but is an interesting tour.

Im not an opera fan, but the area around the States Opera is worth a visit and the pedestrian shopping street starts near there as well.

Have dinner at the Sacher Hotel . . . pricey but worth it.

If your into Jugenstil - the Secession Pavilion is a great place to start - they have numerous books about all the Otto Wagner architecture in Vienna.

As for restaurants - if you're into the mood to splurge - try Korso at the Hotel Bristol - get a table in the main room - order the taster's menu, sit back and enjoy - Old World elegance and superb food.

Another good redstaurant is Steirereck - traditional Austrian food expertly prepared.

It seems like you are wasting a lot of time on this forum making comments as listed above. Perhaps if you spent more time advising people on their question rather than your self imposed rules, there would be less chatter on this thing.

Frankly I would rather have the recent personal responses from individual people rather than poking thru alot of old stuff and useless chatter.

richardab: "Must See" sights have not changed drastically in Vienna for the last 5 years, although I would add the Leopold collection. There is nothing wrong with old posts when it comes to this subject. It would be different if you asked about accomodations.

Michael, Now I know why I stopped using this thing a year ago, you guys are just plain old nasty. How am I suppose to know that nothing has changed in Vienna in the last 5 years if I have never been there.

Truthfully I have read and studied about every good book on Vienna there is and I was just asking to see what the popular opinion was about sights amoungst the posters.

With the attitude that you guys have its no wonder that Americans have a bad reputation in Europe.

I would add an evening at the opera or concert, and evening in Grinzing, and a day trip to Melk and/or Krems.

Here is a suggestion for a sight in Vienna that is not a "must see", but interesting anyway. On the south side of the Hofburg is the Schmetterlingsmuseum - the Butterfly Museum. I found it only by accident. I thought that it would have dead butterflies mounted on the walls, but it didn't. This museum has live tropical butterflies flying around alive, as you walk through a simulated tropical habitat.

The museum isn't very big, but it is pretty neat as these beautiful, large butterflies fly right in front of your face. Beware that the museum, because it is tropical, is rather warm and very humid. After you finish there, eat some Sachertorte at the small restaurant next door.
