Munique - Wien (by train)

I'm planning to spend a 7 days trip, and I want to visit the Castle of Herrenchiemsee, Salzburg, Wien, and a day trip to Budapest.
I'm trying to buy a flight to Munique, then a train to connect Wien and then a return flight from Wien to Portugal.
We are a family of 4 (2 and 2'kids' 11 and 18).
Please any suggestions will be aprecciated!

If Munique is Munich there is a night train. Try www.bahn.de for info.

You take the S-Bahn train (S8 Geltendorf or Grafrath) to "München Ost" and from there the train to Salzburg via Prien. Very easy! Bemvindo à Munique

If there are several people in your group, a Bayern Karte might be much cheaper than paying regular fares.

To go to Prien, you must ride a local train and the Bayern Karte is valid on local trains.

From the airport to the island boat dock is about a 3 hour trip. The local train if fairly slow as the S-Bahn because they make so many stops.

From Herrenchiemsee to Salzburg is another 90 minutes to 2 hours depending on which train you take from Priem.

In all you are looking at a total of 7 to 8 hours depending on how long you spend visiting the palace.

About visiting the Castle of Herrenchiemsee.
We are 4, and I'm thinking to visit the Castle when we will be at Salzburg
Is that a good choice ?
I'll flight to Munich day 5 August where I'll be at 5 pm, then I'm entending to tak a train directly to Salzburg where we will stay 2nights then another train to Viena and more 4 days one of them to make a eye look to Budapest.
What you think ? I just can spend 7 days ?

Your kids may love taking the tiny steam train from the Prien train station to the dock, about a half-mile as i remember. runs during tourist season.

If you are in Salzburg, take a train to Prien. The village is on the train line between Salzburg and Munich.

To get to Salzburg from the airport, you still go to the Munich east station.

If you take a local train, with a Bayern Ticket you can still save money. It is a little slower than an ICE or IC train, but much cheaper. You cannot use a Bayern Ticket on an express train but you can use one on regional trains.

At the worst possible case the regional train will take 14 minutes longer.

A Bayern ticket from the airport to Salzburg for the whole family will cost 29€ unless you print it or buy it from a ticket vending machine. If you buy the ticket from a mchine it is 27€

Five people in the same family can ride for one ticket. If you bought single tickets, you would pay 53€.

That is not much of a savings, but if you if you saw the money lying on the floor you would reach down and grab it!!
