Zum Alten Markt is a lovely little restaurant in the old part of the city. I can't tell you how to get there because it's hidden away but they could give you the address and directions. I have a terrible sense of direction but it's not hard to find. You should make a reservation because it's small. The owner is the chef and it has wonderful food and great atmosphere. I've had dinner there 3 times and it's always great!

Augustiner Keller was a favorite of ours; you can enjoy good food (try the roast chicken) and beer in a lovely outdoor setting.

I agree that two favorites are the Augustiner and the Ratskeller. Another one in the same area that is nice is the Andechs am Dom (right behind the Frauenkirche). I have heard that the walls of the Andechs are lined with the walls of old confessionals. If walls could talk.

While in Munich, it's hard to ignore the Hofbrau Haus...raucous, full of oompah-pah, waitresses who juggle umpteen mugs .and hearty food...so spend at least one of your nights there...it's the full spirit of Bavarian Oktoberfest, even if it's not Oktober!, in one place...very close to the main platz (Marienplatz)..enjoy.

If you do go to Andechs am Dom,try their Champagne Weisswurst which is the house specialty. Weisswurst is a Bavarian specialty that's typically consumed before noon accompanied with Weissbier!
Alternatively, the most well known place for the best weisswurst in Munich is the
Weissessbraeuhaus which is just 2-3 blocks southeast of Marienplatz along Talstrasse.

It's a very crowded place where you share a table with the locals inside or outdoor along the Talstr facade. They have a complete menu with reasonable prices including the crispy Haxe. The food is just as good as the Ratskeller but at considerably lower prices.
