Munich or Amsterdam over New years

Going to London for about 9 days after Christmas. Want one more destination for 3 to 4 days. Any thoughts about the above choices? Open to suggestions. I have been to both but my daughter has not and I have never been in winter.

Munich, for the DIY fireworks.
We're spending more and more on them every year. Since "everyone" does it, they cover the whole area. (And are good business for the shops selling them.)

The Dutch do fireworks on NYE also. The scene in Haarlem, actually from a mile or so out of town, is spectacular. The city is ablaze. It looks like a war zone.

What is Haarlem compared to Munich, just a small country town . Although I do like the market in Haarlem.

Haarlem has a smaller population and a citizenry which is proportionally much less stuffed with themselves than Münchners.

Yeah, but Münchner waste more money per person on useless new years fireworks and partying. Maybe it's because they're catholic

Like some dutch told me a few years ago, "We don't know how to enjoy life, maybe that's because we're protestant"

They were SOOO right.

I whole heartedly vote for Munich for Sylvester! I have spent two New Years Eves there and they were very memorable...not just the firewworks,, but one year they were dancing in the streets to Strauss Waltzes! I loved every second of it... I should go back and get a marzipan pig for good luck!

Didn't eat the ones from last year. They all look so cute...

What is the difference in weather? Rain? Snow?

The forecast for Amsterdam for New Year is 4 degrees c and dry, followed by below zero and dry for the first few days of January, so much as it is here at the moment.(Sunny, dry cold, hoar frost on the trees, stunning!) It could all change in the coming two weeks of course.
Amsterdam has DIY fireworks, as does any city/town/village in the Netherlands. It is indeed like being in a war zone.
In addition to the fireworks there are of course the museums etc etc. so plenty to do on other days.

I've only spent NYE in Munich and it was very much like the war zone too. We saw people shooting fireworks at each other. Right after midnite, we heard all kinds of siren from the ambulances from all directions. Fortunately we were behind the restaurant glass wall. We dashed to our hotel across the street totally wasted, I have no memory of entering our hotel at all.

Knowing Amsterdam, I would think it would have stronger painful cold wind than Munich.
