Amsterdam/Ghent/?/Munich

We have a week in September before we have to be in Munich.
i need advice for what we should do. Im thinking of flying into Amsterdam and stay a couple of days there and then take the train to Ghent and spend 1 night.
Then train to Cologne and then I thought we could rent a car and drive from Cologne to Munich.
Does this seem reasonable? If so, where should we stop along the way? I was thinking we could go to Bamberg and then on the Munich, or got to Rothenberg odT and the to Munich.

Id love your ideas and suggestions and am open to anything

Are you sure that you can see and experience what you want with this plan in this time frame? Amsterday can easily merit 3 or 4 days…. If you haven’t already done so, I strongly recommend that you consult some good guidebooks and plot your trip – and the places you hope to visit – on a calendar.

Sounds like a lot of traveling for nothing. Gent - Cologne, you won't like it. Amsterdam - Cologne is easy.

Yes drop Gent for a day as it will take you much of a day to get there and then next morning leave?

Amsterdam three days- maybe do a day trip to some nearby Dutch regional town

Train to cologne 1 days

Train to Munich
and do day trips somewhere

Book trains in advance at www.bahn.de/en - see www.seat61.com; wwwbudgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com for lots on trains.

Why Gent? for just a few hours? Curious - spend 2 nights there IMO or none.
