Is a very nice 3* that is within your budget, but about 0:30 hr walk to Marianplatz.

You can check available hotels at www.hrs.com (offline right now for a short time due to some upgrade).
After you switched language to English, and put in your travel dates, you can sort the list by distance to certain points of interest or train / subway stations. Scroll through that list until you find "Marienplatz" and select. The results are then sorted and you can check the trade-offs between central location and price.

We stayed at King's Hotel last June, and it was great -- rooms were big and clean. It was about a 10 minute walk to Marienplatz and 15 minutes to Hoffbrauhaus. I believe it cost us about 145 Euro. Also very close to the train station and metro stops.

Ended up at the Hotel Falkenturm on Falkenturmstrasse. I think it was 95Euro per night. Small rooms but very close to downtown. Internet was sketchy (I was there for work as well) but the hotel was decent. Woudl stay there again for non-work stuff

OctopusTravel.com will show you a wide range of hotels and you can set to see the prices in $ to include breakfast and all taxes and fees. They have pictures that are helpful too. We like the area around the train station because it is handy to the fussganger zone.
