I am really struggling, trying to find a budget place to stay in both of these cities...by budget, I am looking for something that is Euro 100 or less.

I would so appreciate any suggestions.....

Unless you come here for Oktoberfest, it should be no problem staying here on 100 for a dbl room or less.

www.hrs.de is the biggest reseller of regular hotel rooms in Germany, and often allows reservations with no credit card details in advance.

Another good hub are the Accor hotels:

Their budget chains Formule 1 or Etap are usually (but not always) far outside the city and are more interesting for vistors who do not want to drive into the city.

Accor's Suitehotel is a nice option, as they are usually very new, closer to the city center, and have good weekend rates, like 170 for 3 nights, and also good rates for longer stays. They are somewhat comparable with an extended stay motel in North America but are not in a "questionable" neighborhood.

If traveling with public transportation for 20min to reach the city center and not living next door to the Hofbräuhaus is okay for you, you will find many hotels or motels in your price range (or less).

What are you looking for in a hotel? If you don't need anything too fancy www.hostelworld.com has tons of stuff in that price range - we used it for Munich I believe although we ended up paying a bit more than that for Prague as it was a business trip. It's not just a site for hostels, they also have lots of B&Bs and 1/2 star hotels - check the ratings, we haven't had a disaster with them yet.

Loved both those cities - you'll have a great time!

Hotel Hastal in Prague has large, clean rooms and a great location. We stayed there this past May. If you book online you get a 20% discount, which will be close to the price you want!

Also go to LivingPrague.com. It has lots of good recommendations for inexpensive housing and dining. We thought Prague lodging was over-priced, actually. But there are lots of choices, so don't get discouraged. Stay in Old Town, for the best experience, IMHO.

We just came back from a Munich-Vienna-Prague trip which was great!

In Prague, on Priceline, we got the Prague Hilton for less than $100 per night=about 70 Euros....you cannot beat that, as the hotel costs over 200 Euros if you book direct.

Also the Renaissance Vienna was under $100 on priceline...how can you go wrong really.

In Munich we got there before Octoberfest, but still there were no priceline deals that were accepted. Stayed in Schwabing in a very decent 3 star for less than 100 Euros, but prices went up by 40-50 extra during Octoberfest.

I have no problem staying in a 4-5* hotel in Europe for less than $100/night, and you can't do it without priceline.

Go to biddingfortravel.com and look at the cities you want, and you will see what hotels people have gotten and what price they bid. You will be amazed.

I prefer to spend my budget on meals, and shopping, so to get these great values, it only helps.

I used to use Expedia, venere, and lastminute.com, but Priceline is usually 50% savings off the best price you see on the above. Sorry to sound like a commercial, but we have been very happy. Only started doing this in 2007, but have had only good experiences.

You will love both Munich and Prague...be sure to hire a bicycle in Munich and tour the city and Englisher Garten that way...delightful.

I do think Prague hotels are a little overpriced, actually, but there is stil plenty at that budget as long as you just want a hotel and aren't expecting something really great for that. There are lots of Prague hotel websites as they use them a lot for marketing. I'm sure they have plenty at that price, and not hostels.

Here's a 3* I've noticed near where I stay which is a very good location and it's only about 100 euro for a double, single occupancy:

You'll probably want to search in Old Town or Lesser Town. They even have a few 3* hotels in that range (be careful of the quote, whether per person or per room). They aren't really per person in that you can pay that if you book a double room by yourself, you have to double it.

Look in www.eurocheapo.com, they have Prague in there. King George's HOuse is in both and in that price range for a single.
