Munich accommodations

Looking for accommodation ideas in Munich this July. We are open to staying in hostels or hotels, our budget is 75-90 a night.

We will only be staying 2 nights, so would like to be close to the major sights to save time travelling to and from.

Thanks!

Hi Kayla- can you tell us some of the amenities that are a must for you? For example, it can get warm in Munich in July. Do you want to sleep with the windows open to stay cooler or will the street noise make it hard to sleep? Do you mind sharing a bath? How about an elevator so you don't have to cart bags up a lot of stairs, or are you backpacking? We can give you some good ideas if you provide more details than "75-90 a night." Is this € or $? etc.

I stayed in one of their 4 Munich hotels last May.
breakfast was extra, free wifi and very modern decor.
total bill was 66E.

Hi Travelforbeer, yes I can definitely provide more information.

We are young and fit so an elevator is not a necessity, we are fine with a little stairs. As for the warmth, my boyfriend will likely want the window open or air conditioning to keep cool but I don't think street noise will be a huge issue as long as it is not completely unbearable. Plus we will only be staying 1 or 2 nights so we will survive I am sure.

We would like to stay somewhere that has easy access to the cities main sights, or to a train station/bus station that can get us here and there in a short period of time.
Price is in $ not euros.

Thanks!

Hi Kayla-

I assume you will be using the train from Boppard. There are a lot of hotels close to the main train station. It is not the best area of Munich but it is safe & close to the center. I found an Ibis hotel (Munich center Arnulfpark)for a Thursday & Friday night, 9& 10 July, for $202 total. It has air cond but no breakfast or elevator. But it is right across the street north of the train station and you can always pick up some inexpensive items to eat in the train station. And I found a large room at the Hotel Sendlinger Torr for $154 for these same 2 nights. It has an elevator but no breakfast or Air cond. This hotel is closer to the center of Munich but 8 blocks or so from the train station. Both have a private toilet and shower. They can be found on the web site www.Booking.com, and can be canceled with no penalty on the day of arrival. There are other choices on this site, some are less expensive but they are usually non-refundable or the toilet/shower facilities are shared with others... Usually the hotel prices go down for Fri and Sat night in Munich. Also, it may be 80 to 90 degrees F during the day in July, or it could be a cool 65 with light rain.

There is a room finding service at the train station- they can probably find you something less expensive if you want to gamble on the location and value for cost. The earlier you get there the better your chance of getting a good deal. If you go with this option and nothing they have appeals to you, I suspect the first hotel mentioned will still have availability since it is on the w3eekend. & if you arrive during the week expect to pay more for less....

The public transportation system in Munich is very good. Almost anyplace in town within 5-6 miles of the center can be reached on Public transport within 10-20 minutes. For this reason, I haven't stayed in the center of Munich for more than 20 years.

'Hope this helps- Have a great trip!!!
