Munich-6 days in September
Will be staying in a hotel 30 minutes from Munich by train. Recommendations for 6 days. Information on transportation options, restaurants, top sites, safety, etc. Will be site-seeing by myself (female).

It is hard to talk about any transportation options since we have no idea exactly where you are staying. However, from experience I can say that within the city surrounds we have used the U-Bahn/S-Bahn system extensively (we never rent a car when we stay in Munich) and you could also use the regional rail net work to get to a wide variety of places.
Top sites? Depends on your interests, obviously, but I would recommend you consider a visit to the Residenze as well as the Nymphenburg Palace; there's always the area around the Marienplatz. The Ludwig builds can be reached by rail; Dachau can be reached by S-Bahn/local bus combination.
Safety? We have never felt that was any sort of issue.

Enjoy the parade and Oktoberfest. Hofbrau has standing room only tables that are very fun if you can't find a seat.
